Tesla revealed its plans to extend capacity at the Fremont factory above 600,000 units per year from the current 500,000 for Model 3 and Model Y and 100,000 Model S and Model X. "Over a multi-year horizon, [Tesla] expects to achieve a 50% average annual growth in vehicle deliveries." More: - Tesla began equipment testing at the Berlin-Brandenburg factory toward the end of 2021, while it is finalizing the manufacturing permit from local authorities. On Giga Shanghai, the company stated that "local production is essential for reducing the cost per vehicle and improving the stability of the global supply chain."
- The company's Texas site is awaiting the final certification of its Austin-made Model Y, after which it plans to begin deliveries to customers. Cybertruck production is planned following that of the Model Y in Austin.
- Tesla does not plan to introduce new vehicle models this year to prevent a decrease in total output and further parts supply constraints; however, the company plans new tooling development to produce new vehicles starting in 2023. Elon Musk said during the Q4 earnings call that the most product development this year is on the Optimus human-like robot, which "has the potential to be more significant than the vehicle business over time."
- On the 4680 lithium battery cells, the company is building structural packs assembled into vehicles in Texas. The first deliveries with the new battery cells are expected this quarter.
