Activist investor Blackwells Capital is again calling for Peloton to consider a sale, arguing that shareholders are worse off today than they were in January under Peloton’s co-founder and former CEO, John Foley. Blackwells pushed for Foley to be removed as Peloton’s CEO in January. Foley transitioned to the role of chairman and was replaced by former Netflix and Spotify executive Barry McCarthy. More: - Blackwells says McCarthy has failed to reform the fitness company’s governance or justify its continued operation as an independent company.
- Blackwells founder Jason Aintabi has reached out to other shareholders to support its push for Peloton to scrap its dual-class shareholder structure, which gives Foley and other insiders control of the company.
- Blackwells owns a 5% stake in Peloton and plans to detail its argument in a presentation on Wednesday.
- According to a draft of the document seen by the Financial Times, Blackwells is threatening to pursue legal action if Peloton does not take a series of actions, including soliciting takeover bids for the company.
- Amazon and Nike have considered bids for Peloton.
- Peloton shares were up ~2% in early trading on Wednesday; the company is down over 30% so far this year.

Meta Platforms, Facebook’s parent, plans to take an overall cut of up to 47.5% on every virtual asset sale in its metaverse – Horizon Worlds. The company popularized the term metaverse last fall when it announced it would focus on developing the space as the next evolution of human connection. The company also changed its name from Facebook to Meta to reflect this commitment. More: - In a blog post on Monday, Meta announced it would start testing new tools that would allow creators to sell virtual assets and experiences they create in Horizon Worlds.
- Horizon Worlds is Meta’s free virtual reality game that allows users to build and explore virtual worlds.
- In December, Meta launched the game in the U.S. and Canada on its Oculus VR headsets.
- A Meta spokesperson said the 47.5% cut included a 30% hardware platform fee and a Horizon Worlds 17.5% fee.
- News of the cost sparked anger in the NFT community, with some comparing Meta’s cut with NFT marketplace OpenSea, which takes a 2.5% cut on each sale.
- The 47.5% cut is also higher than the 30% Apple charges developers for sales on its App Store, for which Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg criticized Apple last year.
