Vuzix told shareholders that the company now holds an exclusive license of the French-based company Atomistic's muLED display technology. The product will allow Vuzix to market and scale the compact, color-integrated, high-performance, and low-power displays. More: - Atomistic's muLED displays, or "micro light-emitting diode" displays, solve color integration problems faced by many VR display companies.
- For example, Atomistic's muLED uses "emitters for red, green and blue spectral wavelengths based on a single epitaxial structure transferred to a CMOS backplane; high brightness; and greater efficiency at small pixel pitches."
- Vuzix has also been granted a custom backplane.

Half of Premier League clubs are using some form of VR to train or rehab players. Analysts believe that that number will near or reach 100% of clubs by the end of 2022. How VR technologies are being used across clubs differs. Still, perhaps one of its most significant advantages is allowing players to practice drills or prepare for matches without posing any threat to their heads, thus reducing the risk of brain injuries. More: - Players practice drills wearing a VR headset, holding hand controllers, and using HTC5 trackers to track their feet.
- The drills have been designed with Uefo Pro License coaches and players to create the best possible and most realistic VR experience.
- During recovery or offseason, playing soccer in VR reduces brain risk while encouraging regular play.
- Many players, coaches, and doctors highlight VR simulators' importance to cognitive growth and development.
- One Austrian rehabilitation doctor, Christian Fink, uses VR on Manchester City players during recovery periods to keep players' minds sharp and practice "scanning the pitch, passing, dealing with pressure and receiving the ball."
- World Cup winner Cesc Fabregas said about the technology, "In all of my years, I have never seen technology that allows players to develop their cognitive skills in a virtual reality world without the risk of injuries."
- The technology helps prepare new or young players for big matches, acclimating them to a raucous crowd and players running directly at them.
- Well-known teams such as Leicester City, Everton, and Manchester City, to name a few, are using VR technologies.

Vermont-based Olfactory Virtual Reality's (OVR) custom Bluetooth-enabled cartridge can be attached to a VR headset so users can smell their virtual surroundings. The San Francisco Museum of Craft and Design's current "Living with Scents" exhibit highlights OVR's headset cartridge, which releases smell in time with digitally programmed cues. The company is one of a small few bringing scents into VR. More: - OCR's "snap-n-scent" cartridge is filled with lab-created vials that release smells according to what the viewer is experiencing in VR.
- The hardware is filled with nine vials that produce countless distinctive smells.
- According to a reporter who visited OCR's lab, wearers can, for example, lean in to smell a rose, and then the second the rose disappears from view, so does the smell.
- OCR's hardware is being tested at numerous health facilities, such as a New York City recovery center and a PTSD lab in Los Angeles.
- In New York, patients are immersed in a relaxing, meditative experience while smelling calming scents.
- The meditative experience is part of OCR's burgeoning "Inhale" program.
- In L.A., researchers at the University of Southern California use OCR's technology for PTSD-related exposure therapies.
- The program acclimates PTSD suffers to familiar if disturbing smells like gunpowder, blood, and feces.

The VR therapeutic company AppliedVR and the noninvasive neuroimaging startup Kernel are partnering to study VR's effectiveness in treating chronic pain. The companies will measure the effects of AppliedVR's FDA-authorized RelieVRx by comparing those findings with a control group (not using the VR program to treat chronic pain). The study will consider how the intervention affects patients before, during, and after their treatments. More: - Patients will wear Kernel's FlowVR headsets to access the RelieVRx treatment suite.
- Kernel's specially headset uses TD-fNIRS to measure brain activity, allowing the companies to trace and examine biomarkers associated with chronic pain.
- The 20-person study will also track changes in pain perception.
