"The Assassination of Jesse James" helmer Andrew Dominik directed the film, based on the bestselling novel by Joyce Carol Oates. More: The film, a fictionalized account that re-examines Monroe's very public life from her own, private perspective, has received an NC-17 rating. Dominik has said the film has "something in it to offend everyone" and referred to it as a "demanding movie"; Netflix reportedly brought in "Tenet" editor Jennifer Lame during the post-production process to "curb the excesses" of the film. The cast also includes Bobby Cannavale, Adrien Brody, Julianne Nicholson, Xavier Samuel, and Evan Williams. "Blonde" hits Netflix around the world on September 23. VARIETY

Netflix and comedian Mo'Nique settled their ongoing lawsuit out of court. Terms of the deal made between the two parties were not publicly disclosed. More: The lawsuit stemmed from negotiations for a comedy special between the streamer and performer in 2017.  Netflix allegedly offered Mo'Nique $500,000 for an hour-long special, which the comedian rejected as "discriminatory"; the streamer then walked away from the deal entirely. Mo'Nique then sued Netflix and publicly accused the company of systematically underpaying Black women compared to their counterparts from other demographic groups, calling for a public boycott. In a potentially precedent-setting decision, a federal judge initially agreed with Mo'Nique's argument, that Netflix's failure to negotiate a consistent opening offer constituted an "adverse employment action." The sister of Brooke Preston, the murder victim at the center of Hulu's true-crime documentary "Dead Asleep," publicly called on the platform to take down the film. Jordan Preston has posted an online petition calling on Hulu to remove the film, and has started making her case on the social media platform TikTok. More: The film examines claims made by Preston's killer, her roommate and lifelong friend Randy Herman Jr., that he committed the violent act in his sleep; it includes interview footage with Herman. Jordan Preston told Rolling Stone last year that the family had been approached about appearing in the film, but declined due to concerns that the approach was skewed toward Herman's perspective. "Dead Asleep" director Skye Borgman told FanSided that she felt the film strikes a careful balance between Herman's accounts and the perspectives of authorities and the Preston family. E! NEWS
