| 1 | | Anthropic, an AI startup founded by former OpenAI engineers, says its chatbot Claude can now read and analyze full novels in under a minute. The company bumped up the chatbot's context window from 9,000 to 100,000 tokens, which translates to approximately 75,000 words. More: - This means Claude could read and comprehend entire novels such as "A Farewell to Arms," "Frankenstein," and "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer," which range from 69,000 to 74,800 words in length.
- In a test, Anthropic altered one sentence in "The Great Gatsby" and asked Claude to identify the change, which it did in just 22 seconds.
- Anthropic says the average person can read 100,000 tokens of text in about five hours, while Claude can do this "in less than a minute."
- The company says the upgrade will help businesses with tasks that require processing large amounts of information at a time.
Zoom out: - An AI model's context window refers to the text it takes into account prior to generating additional text, whereas tokens are the fundamental elements of text.
- For example, the word "fantastic" is divided into the three tokens of "fan," "tas," and "tic."
- Claude's context window is now larger than any other chatbot. For example, OpenAI's GPT-4 model can process up to 8,000 tokens, while its extended version can handle 32,000 tokens. ChatGPT is currently limited to about 4,000 tokens.

| 2 | | What happened: Microsoft's latest Work Trend Index report found that 82% of leaders globally believe that employees will need new skills in an "AI-powered future," with analytical judgment, flexibility, and emotional intelligence being the top skills that leaders say are essential. The big picture: Companies are already rolling out AI-powered tools for businesses, and employees will need to equip themselves with new skills required to work alongside AI. Colette Stallbaumer, GM for Microsoft 365 and "future of work," was optimistic about AI's positive impact on work, comparing it to the rise of PCs and the internet when new jobs were created during the technology's diffusion phase. "We really believe that AI will create more jobs than it replaces," she told CNBC. What it means: The CEOs of Google and Microsoft believe that AI will revolutionize the working world and impact every industry, but also create new jobs. "I do think there are big societal labor market disruptions that will happen," Google CEO Sundar Pichai recently told The Verge. Despite the AI advancements, Pichai believes that certain skills and careers will be needed, such as lawyers. "I think it'll touch everything we do," he added. | | |

| 4 | | Google has developed an open-source AI tool called "Project Gameface," which allows users to control a PC using their facial and head movements. The technology relies on a webcam and machine learning to detect 468 points on a person's face and mimic cursor movements based on that feedback, making gaming more accessible to people with disabilities. More: - Google developed the tool in partnership with Lance Carr, a PC gamer from Colorado who has a rare form of muscular dystrophy.
- The company and Carr worked together to create the Windows-only software for users to control their computer through head movement and gestures using a webcam.
- Using the tool's interface, players can assign various actions and shortcuts to each facial expression, like assigning right-click when they raise an eyebrow.
- While still in development, the tool is available in a preview build through GitHub.

| A message from our sponsor, PUBLIC.COM. | | | Lock in a 5% Yield on Your Cash in Less than 30 Seconds Treasury Accounts are officially live on Public, offering a new way to lock in a 5.0% yield on your cash in literally seconds. (That’s significantly higher than a high-yield savings account.) It’s easy to get started. Once you create your Treasury Account, you can move your cash into the safety of US Treasury bills. As a Public member, you can now instantly invest your cash in 26-week Treasury bills. Here are the steps: - At the time of your deposit, you lock a fixed rate of return, backed by the full faith and credit of the US government.
- Public then stores your Treasury bills at The Bank of New York Mellon—the world's largest custodian bank and securities services company.
- Once your Treasury bills reach maturity, they are automatically reinvested, so you have one less thing to think about.
- However, you also have the option to sell your Treasury bills at any time—even before they reach maturity. So, it's the best of both worlds: the high yield of US Treasuries and the flexibility of a savings account.
