| 1 | | Microsoft will integrate Bing as the default search engine in ChatGPT. Microsoft made the announcement at its Build developer conference, saying that Bing integration is now available for ChatGPT Plus users and will roll out later to free users through a separate plugin. More: - With the update, OpenAI's chat service will be able to provide real-time web information and citations to users and is no longer limited to data prior to September 2021.
- In the past, ChatGPT depended on individual plugins to access current information. The Bing web search is now enabled for Plus subscribers as an option under GPT-4.
- While Microsoft has already incorporated OpenAI technology into Bing and other products, the update brings Bing into OpenAI's ecosystem.
Source: Microsoft Other Build announcements: - Bing Chat will also be integrated into Windows 11 with a new "Windows Copilot" directly within the taskbar, allowing users to access the "personal assistant" across all apps and programs.
- That feature will launch as a test in June, offering things like content summarization, rewriting, and explanations. It will be a separate Copilot button alongside the Windows 11 search bar in the taskbar.
Plugins: - Microsoft is also adopting OpenAI's open plugin standard for interoperability between Bing Chat, Microsoft's Copilot platform, and ChatGPT.
- Developers will be able to build their own plugins that enable copilots to interact with separate software.
- Bing is also introducing plugin support for third-party companies, including Instacart, Kayak, Klarna, Redfin, and Zillow.
- As well, a new curated AI Hub in the Microsoft Store promotes top AI experiences by developers and Microsoft.
- Finally, Microsoft Azure will launch an AI-powered service for comment moderation on social media.

| 2 | | The news: Google plans to display ads within its AI-powered Search experience. The ads could appear above and below the company's new experimental Search Generative Experience, which displays AI-generated answers, information, and follow-up links at the top of search results. The rollout comes after Microsoft said it's expanding the presence of ads in the new Bing AI. How it works: Google plans to experiment with the ads in the AI-powered snapshot and conversational modes of Search, displaying them alongside relevant queries. For example, if a user searches for "hiking backpacks for kids," the AI system will present an ad for a specific backpack, along with tips on choosing the best one for a child. The company plans to test the new ad placements using current ads from traditional Google searches. Related: Also on Tuesday, Google unveiled a conversational chatbot designed to help brands create ads. Advertisers can input a website and the AI will suggest attention-grabbing headlines, keywords, and images for their ads, according to the company. Why it matters: The impact of Google's AI search ambitions now extends to advertisers, affecting the $279B search engine advertising market that's dominated by Google. According to Statista, ad spending in the market is forecasted to grow to $389B by 2027. | | |

| 4 | | Adobe is adding a new generative AI tool into Photoshop, allowing users to add, extend, and remove content in images using natural language prompts. The Generative Fill tool, now in beta testing, will be released to the public in the second half of 2023. It's powered by Firefly, Adobe's new creative generative AI engine. More: - Firefly lets users type in descriptive words and phrases to produce the kind of image or object they want to create.
- Once an image is generated or added in Photoshop, Generative Fill allows users to extend that image with AI-created backgrounds or add and remove objects using only text prompts.
- According to Adobe, the tool maintains the original scene's perspective, lighting, and style, enabling significant image alterations with minimal effort.
- Images created or altered with the AI technology will be labeled as such in their content credentials.
- Restrictions will apply, including no commercial use, age limits, and support for English text prompts only.
- Currently, Generative Fill is exclusive to the Photoshop desktop beta app or as a module within the Firefly beta app.
