| 1 | | Ford is recalling 422,000 SUVs in the U.S. owing to a potential video output issue that could result in the loss of the rear-view camera image. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), this may decrease driver visibility and raise the likelihood of accidents. More: - SUVs with 360-degree cameras, including the 2020-2023 Ford Explorer, 2020-2022 Lincoln Corsair, and 2020-2023 Lincoln Aviator, are included in the recall.
- On June 26, Ford will distribute owner notification letters and begin working with suppliers to find a solution.
- The automaker reported receiving over 2,100 warranty claims and reports of 17 minor crashes before a 2021 recall for the same issue.
- After another 2023 recall for the same issue, Ford recorded 250 warranty claims for rear camera malfunctions, 29 screen malfunction symptoms, and one minor crash caused by a loss of the rear-view camera image.

| 2 | | What happened: With the rise of electric vehicles (EVs), regulators are paying more attention to the effects of tire pollution. When tires come into contact with the pavement, they release microscopic particles, and the added weight of electric vehicles due to their batteries makes this pollution worse. There is pressure on major tire manufacturers like Goodyear, Bridgestone, Michelin, and Continental to identify substitutes and address the toxicity of tire components. Why it matters: Tire pollution needs to be reduced to keep the environment sustainable and threatens the green credentials of EVs. The industry has to create tires with lower pollution, particularly for heavier electric vehicles (EVs) that can wear out tires up to 50% faster. Environmental impact and potential health hazards have been associated with toxic substances found in tires, such as 6PPD. According to Statista Market Insights, EV unit sales will increase to 16.21 million vehicles in 2027 from 7 million in 2022. Where to see the impact: While the European Union is creating Euro 7 emission requirements for tires, California is anticipated to be the first authority to insist that tire manufacturers look for alternatives to 6PPD, a common anti-ozone additive used in vehicle tires since the 1960s that is toxic to fish. Manufacturers of tires are looking for alternatives to 6PPD and ways to lower tire emissions. Future tire products, especially those created for EVs, should exhibit increased tire durability and decreased emissions. | | |

| 4 | | Mobility tech provider ECARX and Epic Games have partnered to integrate Unreal Engine into driver dashboards and in-car screens, allowing for 3D visuals, interactivity, and improved navigation experiences for electric vehicles. For Epic, the creator of Fortnite and the engine used in The Mandalorian, it is an opportunity for the company to expand its reach. More: - Increasingly critical competitive differentiators for manufacturers are in-car experiences, thanks to the popularity of smartphones and consumer electronics.
- Volvo, Rivian, and GM vehicles currently use Epic Games' products, and the company wants further to increase its market share in Asia and Europe.
- While American manufacturers have implemented car-experience software more cautiously, Chinese automakers have been more active.

| 5 | | Einride, a Swedish EV trucking startup, has attracted major clients such as PepsiCo, Maersk, and Beyond Meat. Its CEO, Robert Falck, believes up to 50% of the $4T freight market can transition to electric trucks cost-effectively. More: - According to the California Air Resources Board, trucks are a substantial source of air pollution and emissions in the U.S. as they convey up to 70% of all freight.
- Einride and Tesla, with Einride operating in the U.K. and Tesla in California, have agreements with PepsiCo.
- Since electric vehicles are more affordable than diesel in many countries, Falck predicts electric-driven freight mobility might offer a $2T opportunity.
- On the 2023 CNBC Disruptor 50 list, Einride is placed No. 13, with the trucking firms Convoy and Flock Freight.

| 6 | | Stellantis has warned that post-Brexit trading arrangements present a severe risk to its U.K. operations, which employ over 5,000 people and plan to transition to 100% EV production. The automaker is concerned that tariffs on batteries transported between the U.K. and mainland Europe will make it less competitive. More: - Despite a grace period provided by the EU-U.K. Trade and Cooperation Agreement, Rules of Origin tariffs will grow increasingly rigorous, requiring up to 65% domestic production and 10% export charges on EVs.
- According to Stellantis, the current plan to manufacture batteries in China and mainland Europe would increase logistics costs and jeopardize the viability of their U.K. business.
- The multinational automotive manufacturing corporation implores the U.K. government to negotiate with the EU to extend the current regulations through 2027.
- While the U.K. has made considerable headway as it confronts obstacles and unpredictability in the battery industry, the EU and its countries are expanding their focus on EV production through programs like the European Battery Alliance.
