You're the best!
what's got us buzzing
You're the best!
You told us how you beat boredom.
I am 81 and very deaf. I keep boredom at bay by having days/weeks that split into cooking/eating, household/garden chores, shopping, reading, current affairs, various puzzles and (my favorite) playing backgammon online. Regarding the mundane household tasks, I split them down and never do too much in one day. Sometimes things don't get done — so what, there is probably tomorrow. — Ronald H.
I've always wanted to learn a second language. After retirement, I decided it was a good time to follow through. We moved to Florida, where many of our neighbors are Spanish-speaking, so I've been doing my best to learn Mexican Spanish for the last 2 years. Between online classes, Spanish audible books, and Spanish movies, it keeps me busy! — Shari C.
You shared your personal health hacks.
I have been cold plunging for several years. My pool gets colder as the fall progresses into winter, and I do the plunge daily. The colder it becomes (a low of 47°F) the short time I spend in the pool. I started doing it for my migraine attacks and it helped lessen the amount per month. Otherwise, I swim for an hour plus daily and I highly recommend this exercise. — Victoria A.
Apparently, I snore really loudly … I have a sports bra with removable padding and I fill it with things that are not comfortable to lie on, like hair brushes and oversized hair clips, anything that's pokey and hard. Then I put the bra on backward. I also put a huge hair clip on the back of my head. This works pretty well. I found the often recommended ball in the t-shirt doesn't work because my half-sleeping self just moves it to the side! — Angie M.
A great dental tool, for me a must have: A rubber-tipped gum stimulator. Use after brushing and flossing to stimulate the gums and to get any remaining food particles. Great for uneven teeth. — Carlotta C.
[Tofu] is about the form, not the taste. Use it to cream a soup … for chili, pasta, tacos … drink like a milkshake. Just change its form from firm to liquid and add the flavors you want, whether dressings, desserts, main course, or whatever. — Jone A.
Your pets joined the party!
You helped us feel better about aging.
I will be 85 next month (good Lord willing). My friends and people I meet can't believe my age because first, I don't act it and I have a positive attitude. I laugh a lot. As you know this is an excellent remedy and people are drawn to you. — Ann K.
My biggest fear of aging used to be what I'd look like with gray hair, lol. Reading articles like this helps my attitude toward aging to be more positive and grateful for each living breath. — Brenda B.
You made us laugh, too.
Yep, I sprayed water on myself, the mirror, the walls, hand towels, you name it, those first couple of times!! Lol. It does have a learning curve but it's a quick one. — Ali S. (on using a water flosser for the first time)
I've always had weird dreams from the time I was a small child. Four dreams were recurrent in my childhood and to this day, I still can remember them. All I know is this has always been a part of my life since I was 4 years old. Am I psychic or psycho … LOL. I'm neither. I'm just me. — Linda D.
And you gave us your wise marriage advice.
My ex-husband always peed in the shower. The floor of the shower was a plastic material and always yellowish and stained. I was constantly cleaning and scrubbing on hands and knees before I realized what was going on. Peeing in the shower may save water and toilet paper, but it keeps the work of the person trying to remove the stains going. Use the toilet! That's what it's for! (And maybe save your marriage as well.) — J.K.L
We could keep going, but we'll stop there … until next year. 😉
From all of us on the Healthline newsletter team, thanks for being a part of our Wellness Wire family! We're so grateful to help you along the path to your happiest, healthiest life.
