AI medical imaging startup Viz.ai is expanding its use of deep learning to detect not just strokes but aortic dissections and pulmonary embolisms. The firm's AI software analyzes CT scans of a person's brain and compares them to scans in a database, which can help detect early signs of large vessel occlusion strokes and get patients into surgery faster. More: - If an LVO stroke is suspected, the system automatically alerts a doctor and sends radiological images to their smartphone.
- In strokes, every minute "translates to two million brain cells that die and every one minute of delay translates to an extra week of disability," according to CEO Chris Mansi, a neurosurgeon.
- Founded in 2016 by Mansi and CTO/AI specialist David Golan, the company has raised $150M from VC firms Insight Partners, Scale Venture Partners, Kleiner Perkins, Innovation Endeavors, among others.
- Its clients include Cleveland Clinic, Mount Sinai, and Geisinger.
- In 2021, Viz.ai's revenue reached $12M.
