- Microsoft is considered to be well-positioned with success in metaverse development. The company has a solid balance sheet with over $130B in cash and short-term investments, which amounts to 7.5% of the current market cap.

If the metaverse is the future of the internet, then virtual worlds need to be governed by laws and regulations to avoid big tech companies from controlling the metaverse. The metaverse is meant to be a free and open space that may require a constitution, write Stephanie Hurlburt and Rich Geldreich of CoinDesk. More: - Without proper rules and regulations, the metaverse might become a "terrifying monster." Ways that we can regulate it are twofold:
- First, research that is conducted in the metaverse should become available for the public. Also, let's be clear on one fact: The metaverse was not invented by Facebook, and we should prevent one company from taking over.
- Some believe that the rebranding from Facebook to Meta is an indication that the company might want to dominate the space.
- Second, data policies and collection must be transparent and coherent. If this is left unchecked, then we will run into surveillance and privacy problems in the future.
- The metaverse is meant to be an open and free platform that allows users to engage and interact freely without the control and dominance of one entity.
