BREAKING NEWS: Former secretary of State Madeleine Albright has died of cancer at age 84

Madeleine Albright, the first woman to serve as secretary of State, has died. She was 84.

The cause of death was cancer, her family said in a statement, adding that Albright was surrounded by family and friends.

Albright, who served under former President Bill Clinton as the 64th secretary of State, was born in Prague and traveled to the United States as a refugee, rising "to the heights of American policy-making," her family said. She was a "tireless champion of democracy and human rights."
