ProShares announced that the firm's Metaverse ETF has begun trading on the NYSE Arca and carries an expense ratio of 58 basis points. The asset manager launched the first bitcoin futures ETF in the USA and is a direct competitor of the Roundhill Investments Metaverse ETF (METV). More: - ProShares debuted its Bitcoin Strategy ETF (BITO) in Oct. 2021 and first announced that it is looking to enter the metaverse ecosystem.
- The ETF tracks the Metaverse Theme Index, which has 40 companies and includes device markers, data processors, gaming platforms, and more.
- ProShares managed $60B in assets and gathered about $1B in its first day of trading.
- Competitor Roundhill Investment ETF, which launched last year, has grown to $726M in assets and has returned -30% year to date, according to FactSet data.
- The firm is bullish on the idea of the metaverse. ProShares CEO Michael Sapir says: "The metaverse may be as impactful on society as the arrival of the internet or the mobile phone, and the investment opportunity has the potential to be just as compelling."

ApeCoin, a metaverse-centric coin launched by Yoga Labs, lost half its value in 30 minutes. Yuga Labs is building a metaverse ecosystem centred around the Bored Ape Yacht Club NFT collection. The company listed its token on CoinMarketCap, but within 30 minutes, the value dropped from $20 to under $10 with a 24-hour trading volume of $570M. More: - The developers of ApeCoin want the token to be viewed as the "token for the Web3 economy" governed by the APE foundation.
- Holders of the platform DAO, which is open to all ApeCoin holders, will enable investors to participate in decisions relating to the project's Ecosystem Fund allocations, partnerships, governance rules, and more.
- Although the token value decreased, ApeCoin's valuation still remains high at $2.5B with a fully diluted valuation of $9B.
- Some of the tokens were distributed to BAYC NFT holders.
- One reason that the price dropped could be due to NFT holders who got as many as 10,000 tokens and immediately dumped them to take the money. Even at a $10 price, 10,000 tokens is a cool $100,000.
