The developer of npm package node-ipc deliberately sabotaged it with a critical security vulnerability in protest of Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The package created by RIAEvangelist is downloaded more than 1 million times every week. More: - The node-ipc package adds remote interprocess communication and neural networking capabilities to other open-source libraries and is used as a dependency by Vue.js.
- On March 8, RIAEvangelist published an npm package called peacenotwar. Last week, this module was added to node-ipc to wipe out files from machines of developers from Russia and Belarus based on their IP addresses.
- RIAEvangelist maintains over 40 different libraries with hundreds of millions of weekly downloads.
- Snyk recommends avoiding the package entirely or using the npm package managers feature to override the sabotaged versions.

A message from SONRAI SECURITY Get a list of data and identity security measures that you should implement to protect your AWS org. As the market leader, AWS is constantly innovating, creating more powerful and complex ways to set up your cloud infrastructure. Innovation breeds value, but it also requires vigilant updating of your security priorities. That's why we made the AWS Security Checklist for 2022. There are many benefits to using AWS, but how do you manage security, compliance, and access risk within the AWS environment? Ignoring security gaps and relying on a single vendor dramatically increases risk, but with many cloud and security teams being asked to reduce costs in the challenging economic climate, taking a single vendor approach can be tempting. To ease the worry of a misconfiguration, we’ve collected the best tips and tricks from our clients and pulled them together in our AWS Security Checklist. Claim your Free AWS Security Checklist | |
Android announced changes to Google Play that will allow users to find apps and games more easily on tablets, foldable devices, and other large screens. Android rolled out 12L for Pixel phones earlier this month. More: - Android is introducing three major updates:

- updated alerts will inform users how low-quality apps will look and function post-installation;
- displaying ratings and reviews split by device type to help users make better decisions.
- Developers can view their apps' device-type ratings here.
- Android recommends developers use resources available, such as large screen quality guidelines, documentation for building responsive layouts, and supporting different screens, to optimize their apps for large screens.
- Android will roll out the announced changes in the coming months.

A new feature in Microsoft Edge will provide screen readers with an automatically generated description of images for which alt text is missing. The feature leverages machine learning algorithms to describe the image in words and capture any text. More: - The service will send the image to Azure Computer Vision API, which will process, analyze and create descriptive summaries in five different languages.
- Microsoft cautions that the algorithms are not perfect and that the quality of descriptions will vary.
- Images that are marked descriptive, smaller than 50x50, excessively large, or categorized as pornographic will not be sent to the auto-image caption service.
- This service is available to all Edge customers on Windows, Mac, or Linux but is unavailable on Android and iOS.
