An AI system can recommend the best text prompts for creating new images that resemble pre-existing ones. Called the CLIP Interrogator, the system is making rounds on social media for giving "brutal" feedback to people based on their input photos. More: - To use the AI system, people upload an image or drop one and click submit.
- CLIP Interrogator generates text feedback to describe that image, sometimes in extreme detail.
- The idea is to use that text to feed into an AI text-to-image generator, like Dall-E, to ostensibly create a similar-looking image.
- However, the CLIP Interrogator appears to be more popular as a roasting tool. According to Futurism, it tends to churn out "descriptions of people that can be mundane, puzzling, staggeringly insensitive and, at times, admittedly a bit hilarious."
- In one example shared online, it told Mark Riedl, associate director of the Georgia Tech Machine Learning Center, that he looked like "a muppet" with a "punchable face."
- The system, hosted on Hugging Face, is based on OpenAI's CLIP, or Contrastive Language-Image Pre-training neural network, which was trained on image and text pairs.

Neuralink's "show & tell" event has been delayed by a month, to Nov. 30, according to a tweet by Elon Musk. The company is developing brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) that could one day sync the human brain with advanced AI to control computers, prosthetic limbs, and more. More: - Musk didn't provide further details about why the event was postponed or what it might feature.
- During the last event in April 2021, Neuralink released a video of a Macaque monkey playing the game "Pong" with its mind.
- Musk, who has described the BCI device as "a Fitbit in your skull," said goals include curing neurological conditions like Alzheimer's and dementia and fusing humankind with artificial intelligence.
- In a podcast interview, Musk said it's ultimately intended to address the "existential risk associated with digital superintelligence," which he believes humans won't be able to surpass.
- Musk said that he hopes to begin human trials of the Neuralink brain implant this year, pending FDA approval. However, the studies will likely be delayed as the FDA has yet to sign off on the technology for trials.
Zoom-out: - In August, it was reported that Musk had approached Synchron CEO Thomas Oxley about a possible deal with the rival brain-computer interface (BCI) startup.
- The sources said Musk has voiced frustration about alleged slow progress at Neuralink. Synchron, conversely, recently became the first company to implant a computer interface device in a person's brain in the U.S.

AI-generated photo company Generated Media launched a library of 100,000 full-body images of fake humans. The company has expanded from only AI headshot photos to include the entire human body. Generated Media is opening them up for non-commercial use (with attribution) for companies to deploy in ads, games, videos, and more. - Users can search through the company's sorted and tagged app to find the right AI image or integrate photos via its API.
- Currently, the full-body images can only be downloaded as a 1.3GB zip file. Generated says it plans to expand from young and slim bodies to include more ages, body types, poses, etc.
- It plans to eventually launch a searchable database of full-body images, similar to what it's done with the Face Generator.

Chinese EV manufacturer XPeng Motors debuted its most advanced driver-assistance system back by a new neural network-based architecture. The XNGP system, which stands for "navigation-guided pilot," competes directly with Tesla's Autopilot. More: - XNGP replaces Xpeng's previous driver-assistance system, Xpilot. It combines all highway, city, and parking self-driving capabilities into a single system that eventually won't require high-precision maps to work.
- The driving system incorporates Xpeng's new XNet neural network-based architecture, which utilizes a "closed-loop self-evolving AI and data system."
- XNet takes data from multiple vehicle cameras to visually recognize its surroundings and help makes driving decisions.
- Combined with lidar, cameras, and other hardware, Xnet is a part of the ADAS that Xpeng claims is the final "before full autonomous driving is realized."
- XNGP's initial launch is in Xpeng's new G9 flagship SUV. The automaker says it wants to make semi-autonomous driving features available in all major Chinese cities by 2024.
