In an internal memo sent to Disney executives, CEO Bob Chapek outlined a new cost-cutting strategy, including a hiring freeze. The move follows Disney's disappointing quarterly earnings report last week, in which shares of the company hit a new low for 2022 before rebounding. More: - According to Chapek, hiring will continue only for "the most critical, business-driving positions."
- Chapek cautioned that the belt-tightening will likely include layoffs as well, and asked executives to limit expenses -- such as business travel -- to essentials only.
- Disney will also form a "cost structure task force," including Chapek and Chief Financial Officer Christine McCarthy.
- Disney's streaming services collectively lost $1.47 billion last quarter; Chapek has vowed to make the streaming division profitable by the end of 2024.

Comments made by comedian Dave Chappelle about the Jewish community during his opening "Saturday Night Live" monologue were condemned by the Anti-Defamation League (ADL). On Twitter, ADL CEO Jonathan Greenblatt called the monologue "disturbing" and asked "why does [Jewish] trauma trigger applause"? More: - Chappelle used his monologue to discuss rapper Kanye "Ye" West, whose recent anti-Semitic comments led streetwear brand Adidas to cut ties with him in October.
- Chappelle opened his remarks by reading a statement that said "I denounce antisemitism in all its forms and I stand with my friends in the Jewish community," then followed up "And that, Kanye, is how you buy yourself some time."
- He continued by insisting that West had violated "show business rules," and pointed out that Jewish-Americans are disproportionately represented in the entertainment and media industries.
- Theater critic Adam Feldman tweeted that Chappelle's comments "did more to normalize anti-Semitism than anything Kanye said."

Ross and Matt Duffer During a weekend screening and panel at Netflix's Tudum Theater in Los Angeles, "Stranger Things" creators Matt & Ross Duffer discussed the future of the show with a packed audience. - Apparently, the show's writers have already turned the Season 5 premiere script over to Netflix and are currently at work on Episode 2.
- The Duffers were joined for the panel by "Stranger Things" director and producer Shawn Levy and cast members Caleb McLaughlin, Priah Ferguson, and -- checking in virtually -- Millie Bobby Brown.
