JavaScript has remained the largest programming language community, according to a new report. The report claims that innovation in terms of creating new programming languages has temporarily slowed down. More: - The report, compiled by SlashData, shows that JavaScript is still the largest programming language community, with 19.6 million developers worldwide using the language every day.
- Another language that is showing signs of strong community activity is Java. Even though the language is relatively old, it is growing rapidly. In the last two years, the Java community has more than doubled from 8.3 million to 16.5 million, outpacing all other languages.
- The rise of machine learning and data analytics has boosted Python too, with the general-purpose language adding 8 million new developers in the past two years.
- Kotlin and Rust closed out the list of high-growth languages, as they both have doubled in size since 2020.
- The report claims that web developers are also using fewer frameworks, a sign that the dev community is currently comfortable with the options it has available.
- As for the top five most used languages, they are as follows:
- 1.JavaScript
2 Python 3 Java 4 PHP 5 C#. - Interestingly, almost 60% of the interview developers stated that they are not interested in working on NFTs, but 25% of them are actively working on blockchain-related projects that do not have to do with NFTs.

Elon Musk has fired a Twitter software engineer named Eric Frohnhoefer after a public Twitter debate with him. The two were debating the reason why Twitter is currently working slower than normal. More: - After Elon Musk tweeted that the app is using poorly batched remote procedure calls, Eric Frohnhoefer replied to him, saying that Musk was wrong.
- The new Twitter CEO asked Frohnoefer to tell him what is the real problem in his opinion. Frohnoehfer said that after working for six years for Twitter on Android, he has concluded that the reasons for Twitter's performance are the accumulation of old code, features that are used very little, and the overall diversity in the number of devices that support Android.
- A third user then replied to Elon, alluding that Frohnoefer should've contacted Musk privately because these public tweets may be considered as a way of trying to humiliate the company, a sentiment that Elon Musk seemingly agreed with.
- To conclude, once another Twitter user said to Musk that he would likely not want Frohnhoefer as a part of his team, Musk replied, "He's fired."
- Musk then wrote to him again, saying that "The fact that you don't realize that there are up to 1200 'microservices' being called when someone uses the Twitter app is not great."
- The Tesla CEO has been dynamic in his attempt to revive the company.
- He made headlines after firing 50% of the staff, a decision that was partially retracted as the company called several employees back.
- Musk has also debunked a few other unverified reports, such as that Twitter won't allow remote work anymore. He claims that the company will allow remote work in certain conditions, and the same rules that apply to his other companies will apply to Twitter too.
Zoom out: - Musk later tweeted that he had shut down microservices at Twitter, calling them "bloatware" and saying that only 20% of them are required for Twitter to work.
- One of the microservices turned out to be Twitter's SMS two-factor authentication, which temporarily went down Monday afternoon.
- Users who were logged out and had SMS 2FA enabled were essentially locked out of their accounts because the text message with the verification code would never come.

GitHub has launched a new private channel that enables users to report flaws in public repositories. The feature is optional and can be activated by the admin of the repository. More: - The feature is meant to help create a way for researchers and repository admins to contact each other easily.
- Usually, when researchers find a security or code flaw in a repository, their only avenue is to write about it publically. This means that possible ill-intended threat actors could take advantage of the findings and cause further damage.
- If a repository admin enables this feature, they could choose to ignore the report, ask further questions about it, or simply accept it. Users who want to report flaws can click on the "Report a vulnerability" button and fill out a form.
- According to GitHub, besides security benefits, this feature makes fixing bugs an easier process for developers because their code and the advice on what to change are stored under one platform.
- This feature was announced at the GitHub Universe 2022 developer event.

The NSA has published a report where it urges organizations to use memory-safe programming languages like Rust, C#, Java, Swift, Ruby, and Go. The agency has warned against using C and C++. More: - According to the NSA, languages such as C and C++ provide freedom and flexibility in memory management but rely heavily on the programmer to complete memory reference tasks. If the programmer makes even one mistake in their code, that could lead to exploitable vulnerabilities.
- The agency acknowledges that memory-safe languages also have their effects and that the practice is not 100% foolproof, but highlights the fact that these languages force the programmer to locate where the potential issues may be exactly by annotating non-memory-safe code.
- The report is in line with industry trends. Rust users, for example, have tripled in size in the last two years, a sign that these languages are already being picked up by industry professionals.
