The Senate passed a $1.7 trillion government funding bill on Thursday in a 68-29 vote, sending the package to the House for approval as soon as Thursday night or early Friday morning.
The bill's passage clears the way for the Senate to leave town until late January. Senators voted on 15 changes to the bill, including dueling border proposals after a night of gridlock. Eight amendments were ultimately approved, including significant policy provisions that expand federal protections for pregnant workers and nursing mothers, a proposal allowing seized Russian assets to be used as Ukraine aid and a provision allowing states to use leftover federal pandemic aid for infrastructure.
The spending package would boost agency budgets through the rest of the fiscal year. It includes $858 billion for the military, more than $772 billion for domestic programs, about $45 billion in Ukraine aid and nearly $40 billion in disaster relief.
