Apple has indefinitely postponed the release of its augmented reality (AR) glasses. Initially, the company planned on debuting the product shortly after the launch of its forthcoming mixed-reality (MR) headset. Apple's MR headset is still slotted to launch sometime this year. More: - Apple pushed back the launch of its AR glasses due to ongoing technical issues.
- The issues mean Apple's AR glasses could take several years to develop.
- Instead of AR glasses, Apple's first-gen MR headset will be followed by a lower-cost headset, which is expected to debut in 2024 or 2025.
- Analysts expect the company's forthcoming headset to cost ~$3,000, meaning it will be unaffordable to most people.
- According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, "Apple ultimately sees less-bulky AR glasses as a product that could replace the iPhone by moving the smartphone's main functions to a wearer's field of view."

- Flat images that look 3D can sometimes cause motion sickness.
- The companies have developed a way to showcase more true-to-life 3D objects, meaning consumers could interact more naturally with virtual objects.
- Dispelix and VividQ plan to develop this technology and prepare it for mass production.
