INTERVIEW: MEET MANUELA BEDOYA, HEAD OF OPERATIONS AT SOUNDS PROFITABLE (Part 1)

Manuela Bedoya was recently welcomed as the new and first head of operations at Sounds Profitable, a weekly newsletter covering all things podcast adtech. Manuela is also a co-host of "The Download," a weekly podcast that delivers a detailed review of podcasting news in 10 minutes.
I had the pleasure of hearing from Manuela on her plans for Sounds Profitable and her journey in the podcasting industry.
Shreya Sharma (SS): What are your primary goals as Sounds Profitable's head of operations?
Manuela Bedoya (MB): I'm excited to help the team establish more efficient processes across all areas of the company. My main focus is ensuring that everything we plan and put out is executed with excellence and brings value to our partners. My goals include: expanding our offerings, identifying new and innovative ways to support our partners and the broader podcast industry, and planning and executing events to expand the event side of Sounds Profitable. We have a lot of exciting things planned!
SS: What is something in the podcast adtech space that you feel is lacking? How do you see Sounds Profitable filling in that gap?
MB: One thing that is lacking in the podcast adtech space is standardization and trust from buyers and marketers. Podcast advertising is still seen as a secondary or experimental option for many advertisers instead of a viable way to reach engaged and passionate audiences. Our goal is to demonstrate, through research, articles, and all of our content, to the larger media landscape, that podcast advertising can be extremely successful, effectively measured, and compared to other types of advertising campaigns. It's not just a secondary or experimental option but also a viable path to reach and engage consumers.
SS: How has your journey in podcasting been so far?
MB: My journey in podcasting has been an exciting and enlightening experience. Coming from outside the industry, I was initially drawn to the medium's ability to offer a unique level of intimacy and immediacy that is quite different from other media. Podcasting allows for a level of engagement and connection that is truly special, and it's been a pleasure to be a part of this community! One of the key learnings for me has been the importance of authenticity and the power of building and maintaining strong connections with your listeners. I've also learned that it's important to be open to feedback and to always be looking for ways to improve and evolve. In terms of aspirations, I'm looking forward to helping push the medium forward, being an advocate for more diversity and inclusion in the space, and continuing to learn as much as I can.
