Mercedes-Benz set to receive Level 3 autonomy certification / Volkswagen recalls 1,000 ID.4 EVs / Tesla starts hiring employees for lithium refinery plant

1. Mercedes-Benz has received a Level 3 autonomy certification from the state of Nevada. The company is the first to offer certified Level 3 autonomous cars in the U.S. market.

2. Volkswagen has recalled around 1,000 ID.4 electric SUVs due to a potential fire hazard. The ID.4 being all-electric is unrelated to the recall, as the issue is with the 12V battery.

3. Tesla has started hiring employees for its upcoming lithium refinery in Corpus Christi, Texas. Tesla plans to invest $365M in this lithium plant, which will employ 165 full-time employees and 250 contractors.

4. Stellantis revealed that PHEV models from Jeep and Chrysler posted strong sales numbers in Q4 2022. The Jeep Wrangler 4xe continues to be the best-selling plug-in hybrid in the U.S. and Canada.

5. Ford is set to partner with LG Energy Solution to build a battery plant in Turkey. The plant, with an annual capacity of 45GWh, is expected to open by 2025.

6. Two-wheel EVs continue to see high demand in the Indian market, the fifth largest economy in the world. Analysts expect EV sales in India to rise by between 40% and 45% by 2030, leading to 13 million vehicles sold annually.

7. Mazda is bringing back the rotary engine! No 8,000-RPM track days, though — it'll be a range extender for the 2023 MX-30 EV.
