Tesla reports 37% total revenue growth / Nikola announces launch of hydrogen brand HYLA

Here's what is happening with Tesla, JLR, Southwest, and more: Nicolas 1. Tesla reported a 37% YoY increase in its total revenue to $24.3B in Q4, driven by growth in deliveries and other parts of the business. The automaker produced 439,701 and delivered 405,278 vehicles in Q4, increasing by 44% and 31%, respectively, from the same period in 2021. Q: During the earnings call, Elon Musk was asked which is Tesla's closest competitor, to which he replied it is likely a Chinese company. Share your thoughts. 2. American Airlines reported a net income of $803M for Q4, up from a $931M loss in Q4 2021. The airline's fuel expenses reached $3.50 per gallon, increasing by 48% YoY.  Q: AA had a 6.1% decline in capacity from Q4 2021 and expects capacity to increase by 8% to 10% YoY in Q1 – Do you think the airline will be able to reach its capacity goals under the current state of the economy? Share your thoughts. 3. Nikola announced the launch of HYLA, a brand for the production and distribution of hydrogen fuel for its trucks. HYLA aims to produce 300 metric tons of hydrogen per day across five sites.  Q: Earlier this month, Nikola closed a manufacturing facility for its recently acquired battery company, Romeo Power. Nikola also laid off 7% of its workforce in Q4 – Do you think the new brand will be able to increase the truck maker's runway? Share your thoughts. 4. The Department of Transportation is investigating whether Southwest Airlines' flight schedule was unrealistic, which would be considered an unfair and deceptive practice. The airline canceled more than 16,000 flights between Dec. 21 and Dec. 31. 5. Jaguar Land Rover reported £265M ($326M) in profits for Q4, versus a £9M loss in Q4 2021. The automaker reached a record 215,000 vehicle orders. 6. The city of Madrid granted three-year permits to operate shared e-scooters to Dott, Tier Mobility, and Lime. Each operator will have a maximum fleet of 2,000. 7. The Department of Justice initiated a probe of Goodyear regarding its management of a product recall. The G159 tire model, produced between 1996 and 2003, was linked to eight deaths and dozens of injuries in crashes caused by tread separations on motor homes.
