Ford reports $2B net loss for 2022 / Chinese vehicle sensor manufacturer Hesai files for U.S. IPO

Here's what is happening with Ford's earnings, Hesai's IPO plans, Bollinger Motors, and Ferrari: Nicolas 1. Ford reported a net loss of $2B in 2022, down from a net income of $17.9B in 2021. The automaker's market share decreased by 0.1% YoY. Q: Ford CFO John Lawler attributes the lower earnings to execution and supply chain management issues. Share your thoughts. 2. Chinese vehicle sensor manufacturer Hesai is seeking to go public in the U.S. The company seeks to raise $171M via the IPO. Q: While Chinese companies await the final rules involving offshore IPOs from the Securities Regulatory Commission, Geely's EV brands Zeekr and Lotus Technology also recently announced their plans to go public in the U.S. How do you think the companies will perform upon listing? Share your thoughts. 3. Netflix announced the service will increase the presence of General Motors EVs in its films and shows. While the streaming company said GM is not paying for the vehicle placements, the automaker is a partner on its ad-supported tier.  Q: GM sold 38,120 Bolt EV and EUV units and fewer than 1,000 units of the GMC Hummer EV and Cadillac Lyriq in 2022. Do you think the placement strategy will increase GM's EV sales in 2023? Share your thoughts. 4. Bollinger Motors is suing Munro Vehicles over design similarities between the MK_1 electric off-roader and the B1 SUV and B2 pickup. Bollinger also names Munro's head of design, who was an external designer for Bollinger between 2015 and 2017, in the lawsuit, alleging a violation of an NDA. 5. Ferrari reported €1.36B ($1.47B) in revenue for Q4, up from €1.17B in the same quarter of 2021. The luxury car maker delivered 13,221 units in 2022, an increase of 19% YoY. 6. Electric moped-sharing operator Emmy, a GoTo Global subsidiary, acquired mobility company Felyx's operations in Germany. The move will add 1,500 mopeds to Emmy's fleet. 7. Nissan notified dealerships in the U.S. that the electric Ariya would be in limited supply this year due to high battery material costs. The launch of the Ariya was postponed in 2021 due to the global semiconductor shortage. Nicolas is a Sr. Analyst at Inside, covering transportation and startup trends.
