| 1 | | Alphabet, Google's parent company, is cautioning employees against sharing confidential information with AI chatbots, including its own Bard. AI language models often train on user data, potentially leading to the leakage of confidential information if the bots reproduce the data in future chats. More: - Alphabet expressed concerns about the potential risk of data leakage and the fact that human reviewers could have access to chat entries.
- In addition, Alphabet has alerted its engineers to avoid using computer code generated by chatbots directly.
- The company acknowledged Bard's unwanted code suggestions but still sees its benefits for programmers and aims to be transparent about its limitations.
Zoom out: - In May, Samsung temporarily barred employees from using generative AI tools after an engineer unintentionally uploaded internal source code to ChatGPT.
- A January survey by Fishbowl revealed that 43% of professionals use AI tools like ChatGPT at work, with almost 70% keeping it undisclosed to their bosses.

| 2 | | What happened: U.S. employers are increasingly seeking ChatGPT skills from potential employees, according to a new report from Acendance. Details: The career development site found that nearly half (45%) of the jobs demanding ChatGPT skills are in tech, either software development or IT services. However, 55% of job opportunities extend across a large range of non-tech industries. By the numbers: Remote work is prevalent in ChatGPT jobs, with a quarter of all positions being fully remote. The states with the most ChatGPT jobs are California (19%), Texas (10%), and North Carolina (7%), while many of the remaining 52% of jobs are located in states without as large of a tech industry. Source: Acendance More data: Around 91% of postings are permanent, 94% are full-time, and 85% offer a salary rather than an hourly rate. Most (90%) salaried ChatGPT jobs range from $50,000 to $200,000 per year. The average midpoint salary range for ChatGPT jobs is $111,161, according to Acendance. | | |

| 3 | | U.S. tech giants, including OpenAI, Microsoft, and Google, are reportedly restricting access to their AI chatbots in Hong Kong, according to the Wall Street Journal. While the companies haven't offered official explanations, experts said the move may be linked to concerns about violating China's national security law. More: - The move is believed to be a precautionary measure to avoid running afoul of the law, which enables censorship and crackdowns on dissent in the region.
- Some Hong Kong residents have still found ways to access the restricted chatbots through third-party apps or virtual private networks (VPNs).
- The report comes after Hong Kong officials recently sought to block online platforms from hosting the protest song "Glory to Hong Kong."
Zoom out: - The move reflects a trend of tech companies treating Hong Kong more like mainland China.
- A 2022 American Chamber of Commerce survey found that just over 50% of businesses were satisfied with Hong Kong's data freedom. However, 42% are concerned that they may lose free internet access in the future.

| 4 | | Microsoft's CFO, Amy Hood, revealed that its next-generation AI business is expected to be the company's fastest-growing segment. During a public call this week, Hood said Microsoft could generate over $10B annually in revenue from AI usage on its Azure cloud and OpenAI's models. More: - Kevin Scott, Microsoft's CTO, said there are a variety of ways the $10B in annual recurring revenue could present itself.
- For example, he said that customers use Microsoft's infrastructure to train or run AI models and make API calls on an OpenAI-built model.
- Microsoft shares soared on Thursday by 3.2% to a record high. It reached a nearly $2.6T market cap, partly thanks to market enthusiasm around AI.
Zoom out: - Last month, OpenAI partner Microsoft said it's integrating Bing as the default search engine in ChatGPT for subscribers.
- While Microsoft has already incorporated OpenAI technology into Bing and other products, the update brought Bing into OpenAI's ecosystem.

| 5 | | Meta has unveiled a computer vision model that learns more like humans. I-JEPA is capable of generating human-like images by completing incomplete sketches. Backed by Meta's top AI scientist Yann LeCun, I-JEPA learns by creating an internal model of the world and comparing abstract image representations. More: - I-JEPA uses the concept of self-supervised learning, which allows AI systems to learn from raw observations without labeled training data.
- The model predicts high-level abstractions instead of pixel-level details. Its approach mimics human learning by capturing common sense background knowledge.
- Meta says the model performs well on computer vision tasks, with potential applications in video understanding, robotics, and self-driving cars.
- It's also more computationally efficient than other models.
- Meta is presenting the paper on I-JEPA at CVPR 2023 and has open-sourced the training code and model checkpoints.
