| Happy Monday! Netflix hosted its annual "Tudum" livestream promotional event in São Paolo, Brazil, this weekend, so be sure to check out our roundup of all the biggest news and announcements from there. (I'm particularly looking forward to a new entry in Chris Hemsworth's "Extraction" franchise. Part 2 is on Netflix now and, if you're into relentless, epic-scale action... it's pretty great!) Variety also chatted with Pixar's Pete Docter about how Disney+ streaming has impacted the studio's fate at the box office. Did getting to see "Soul," "Luca," and "Turning Red" at home convince families to skip the theater on "Elemental"? Docter thinks so. I was reminded as well of something "Spy Kids" vet Robert Rodriguez said. Kids don't just love to watch things, they want to rewatch them 100 times. So streaming platforms are the logical home for family films. Food for thought as we consider whether or not Disney will need to shift their strategy. Enjoy today's issue! Lon p/lon-harris | |

| 2 | | Pixar's chief creative officer, Pete Docter, spoke with Variety about Disney's decision to premiere the company's recent output on Disney+. The company's most recent feature, "Elemental," just opened to just $29.5 million at the box office, the worst performance from any Pixar film during its opening weekend. More: - Docter referred to Disney's decision to release the studio's films "Soul," "Luca," and "Turning Red" directly on Disney+ as a "mixed blessing."
- On the one hand, he said Pixar artists are "thankful" for the streamer, which allowed people to view their work during the pandemic, rather than having it "sit on a shelf for a year and a half."
- However, Docter fears that Disney trained audiences to expect new Pixar content on Disney+, leading them to skip the theater entirely.

Cattrall appears briefly as Samantha Jones in the new season of Max's "SATC" spinoff, "And Just Like That..." More: - Parker reportedly said "it's been a joy" to have Cattrall back on the show as well as "really fun and exciting and certainly nostalgic."
- The Daily Mail piece also quotes co-star Kristin Davis, suggesting that Cattrall's return is just a cameo and not an indication that she'll return to the franchise more fully.
- "I think maybe hopes have been lifted, possibly higher than that," Davis added, "and that was not our intention."

More: - According to Spitzer, Season 3 would have featured Katherine Hastings -- Ana Gasteyer's character -- finally having some success leading Payne Motors.
- He said he's disappointed that there won't be a third season but feels "immensely proud of the 23 episodes of the show we did put out there."
- Spitzer -- who previously created and produced "Superstore" -- will return to NBC with a new season, "St. Denis Medical," in the fall.

| 7 | | Neal Kirby -- the son of legendary Marvel Comics writer, artist, and editor Jack Kirby -- posted a pointed response to Disney+'s new documentary about Stan Lee. Kirby accuses Lee of taking sole credit for the collaborative work that he did along with numerous other artists and writers and Marvel Comics, and suggests that Disney and Marvel Studios have contributed to this misattribution. More: - In addition to his father's contributions, Kirby also points out the work done by Steve Ditko in developing the character of Spider-Man.
- Kirby also points out the distinction between conceiving of a character and then doing the difficult, creative work of bringing them to life; Lee may have had the idea for Spider-Man, Kirby argues, but it was Steve Ditko's "genius... vision [and] creativity" that made the character an icon.
- Lee made cameo appearances in dozens of Marvel Studios films and is often referred to as "the creator of all things Marvel."
- Kirby posted the message via his daughter Jillian's Twitter account.
- "Stan Lee" is now streaming on Disney+.
