| 1 | | Elon Musk's latest venture, xAI, aims to develop a beneficial artificial general intelligence (AGI) and explore concepts such as dark matter, dark energy, aliens, and gravity. During a Twitter Spaces audio chat, Musk expressed his confidence in creating a competitive alternative to major players like Google, Microsoft, and OpenAI. More: - Friday's chat about xAI drew an audience of over 1.6 million listeners.
- During the talk, Musk suggested that the mission statement of xAI could be humorously rephrased as "What the hell is really going on?"
- The CEO expressed a desire for xAI to build a "good AGI," or superintelligence on par with human intelligence, and gain a deeper understanding of the universe.
- Through xAI's efforts, Musk predicted the emergence of AGI by 2029.
- Given its inevitability, he said there are two choices: be a spectator or a participant.
Other companies: - Musk also criticized profit-driven public companies and highlighted xAI's freedom as a non-publicly traded entity.
- While still in the early stages, xAI will also work closely with his other ventures, Twitter and Tesla.
- The company plans to use Twitter data for training its AI models and may also collaborate with Tesla on AI software, improving its self-driving car capabilities.

| 2 | | The news: Over 60% of job seekers worry about their jobs being replaced by ChatGPT and AI, according to a new ZipRecruiter survey. What the numbers say: Concern about job loss to ChatGPT is highest among young and less educated job seekers but drops with age and education. 76% of Gen Zers are concerned about losing their jobs to ChatGPT, while only 41% of Baby Boomers are worried. In education level, concern ranged from 52% among people with graduate or professional degrees to 72% among those without high school diplomas. The takeaway: AI is targeting entry-level positions and more mundane tasks, which are particularly crucial for younger and Gen Z careers. Companies are cutting training programs and turning to AI solutions, leaving Gen Z at a disadvantage. However, employees can equip themselves with new skills required to work alongside AI. Microsoft's latest Work Trend Index report found that analytical judgment, flexibility, and emotional intelligence were the top skills that leaders said were essential in the new "AI-powered future." | | |
| 3 | | Wix is set to launch an automated tool that uses natural language prompts to create customized websites. Unlike templates, the websites can be uniquely designed and tailored to individual needs, thanks to AI and advanced algorithms. More: - Wix's AI technology, including ChatGPT, generates the text, while advanced algorithms handle the design and imagery based on stock images from Wix's media library.
- The template-based site builder already offers various AI tools for tasks like text and domain name generation, website redesigns, and AI-based image and video editing.
- Additionally, Wix will introduce an AI Assistant Tool for business management, an AI Page and Section Creator, and an Object Eraser for image manipulation.
- Wix hasn't said when it could launch the new capabilities.

| 4 | | MLCommons has created MedPerf, a new testing platform to benchmark and evaluate medical AI models in healthcare. MedPerf relies on a wide variety of real-world medical data and protects patient privacy, according to the engineering consortium. More: - MedPerf allows healthcare organizations, rather than vendors, to evaluate their AI models on demand.
- The platform, developed with feedback from more than 40 companies and academic institutions, aims to improve the effectiveness of AI models, reduce bias, and support regulatory compliance.
- MedPerf is compatible with popular machine learning libraries and can also evaluate private models and those accessible through APIs.
- While currently focused on radiology scan-analyzing models, MedPerf is seen by MLCommons as a foundational step in advancing medical AI through open and scientific methods.
Zoom out: - According to TechCrunch, medical AI models often show biases toward specific patient populations, including minorities, as they are trained using data from limited clinical settings.
- In a Pew Research Center survey, 60% of U.S. adults said they would feel uncomfortable if their healthcare provider relied on AI for tasks such as diagnosing diseases and recommending treatments, while only 39% would feel comfortable.

| 6 | | Community Corner Last week, we asked our tech community, "How comfortable/uncomfortable are you with the idea of AI being integrated into aspects of our daily lives?" Here are some highlighted responses we received: - Alan R Newton (p/alan-newton), COO / Co-Founder at virtuall, answered: "Part of the broader concern with its now widespread proliferation is the amount of garbage content that is flooding the various channels we interact on. Now 'everyone' is a content producer and an 'expert.' Only they're not. Cutting through the noise will be more difficult than ever, but it will reward the truly unique and innovative content producers."
- James Spurway (p/james-spurway), Co-Founder at Indochina Consulting, answered: "In my humble opinion, the visible or noticeable difference that AI will make to our daily lives will for now be felt in developed economies, and even then, it will likely be in certain industries and not across the board. I think the reality will start to hit home when, for example, AI becomes a part of our children's lives and even the curriculum and activities at school. At some point, it becomes the new normal, and the anxiety level starts to subside. Until then, we are right to question whether there are dangers (negatives) that come with AI that we should be vigilant about."
