| 1 | | G/O Media, the company behind websites like Deadspin, Gizmodo, and The A.V. Club, is using AI to create news content. Already, an AI-generated story on Gizmodo's io9 has faced criticism for factual inaccuracies, omissions, and an incorrect chronology of Star Wars films and TV shows. More: - The AI experiment sparked controversy as the article, titled "A Chronological List of Star Wars Movies & TV Shows," appeared under the byline "Gizmodo Bot," surprising the site's editorial staff with no input or advance notice.
- James Whitbrook, a deputy editor at io9, expressed disappointment and sent a statement with a list of corrections to G/O Media.
- According to an internal memo viewed by Adweek, the company plans to do a limited trial using AI to generate a small number of stories for publications including Gizmodo, The Takeout, and Deadspin.
- GMG Union, the Gizmodo union, called the decision unethical and urged readers to avoid clicking on articles with "Bot" bylines.

| 2 | | The news: A new IBM report suggests that CEOs are taking different approaches to the impact of generative AI on their workforces. What the numbers say: According to the survey of 3,000 CEOs, 46% have already hired more employees due to generative AI, while 26% plan to do so in the next 12 months. However, 43% reported reducing or redeploying staff because of the emerging technology, with 28% planning to do so in the next year. Despite this, only 28% of CEOs have actually assessed the impact of generative AI on their workforces. The big picture: AI is causing disruptions in the tech industry, leading to layoffs and a shift in hiring. Tech companies like Chegg, IBM, and Dropbox have cited AI as a reason for job cuts. While some fear that AI will render entire skill sets obsolete, the immediate impact seems to be a reallocation of resources toward AI technology and a growing demand for workers with AI skills. | | |

| 4 | | OpenAI has announced the general availability of GPT-4, its latest text-generating model, through its API. Developers can now integrate GPT-4 into their applications using the cloud-based API or application programming interface. More: - According to OpenAI, "millions" of developers have requested GPT-4 API access since the model was announced in March.
- Existing OpenAI developers with paid API access can now utilize GPT-4 immediately, while new developers will gain access later this month.
- GPT-4 surpasses predecessor GPT-3.5 with enhanced text generation, reasoning, code interpretation, and image support.
- The model has the ability to analyze image content and answer related questions, although this capability is currently just being tested with a partner, Be My Eyes.
Related: - OpenAI also revealed the general availability of three other APIs:
- GPT-3.5 Turbo, a more cost-effective version of the GPT-3 model that offers more limited capabilities compared to GPT-4.
- Whisper speech-to-text model.
- DALL·E 2 image generator.
What's next: - Later this year, OpenAI plans to let developers fine-tune GPT-4 and GPT-3.5 Turbo or customization using their own data.
- The company will also deprecate and discontinue some older models in its API to optimize compute capacity amid growing demand.
