| Good morning! A small bit of positive news on the strike front today, as the AMPTP apparently has reached out to Hollywood writers about resuming talks. Obviously, it's too soon to begin celebrating, and we have no idea what kinds of compromises each side is prepared to make now that they weren't a few months ago, but nonetheless, returning to the negotiating table is a crucial first step. And the fact that it was the studios and streamers who made the first move indicates they may be more open to actually shifting their position on things like transparency, residuals, and protections against AI than they were in past negotiations, when these issues were essentially off the table. We'll keep you posted on any upcoming changes right here in Inside Streaming! Thanks for reading. Lon p/lon-harris | |
| 1 | | The Writers Guild of America (WGA) and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) will restart negotiations on Friday, for the first time since the writers strike began on May 2. The AMPTP apparently reached out first to the WGA, through leader Carol Lombardini. More: - The talks will resume as the writers strike nears its 100th day.
- While there's no guarantee of any kind of deal, agreeing to resume talks is a significant first step.
- Major disagreements still to be negotiated include staffing minimums for streaming shows; residual payments for streaming content and linear shows that are licensed for streaming; and AI.

| 2 | | According to ESPN, Pac-12 commissioner George Kliavkoff presented member schools with a new streaming deal from Apple. The new deal will apparently extend for just one year, and will be based largely around revenue from a subscription-based streaming offer for Pac-12 games. More: - The ESPN report did not include information about the deal's financial terms.
- Delays and complications in the process have led some Pac-12 schools to consider other offers; Colorado elected last week to join the Big 12 conference, while Arizona, Arizona State, and Utah are also believed to be considering new deals.
- The Apple contract would apparently extend from 2024 through 2025; it's believed that Apple's plans for college football will start out slow but will incrementally build in scale over the next several years.
