| 1 | | Back in March, Spotify announced that it would be laying out a more data-focused platform for podcasters called Spotify for Podcasters. On stage at Podcast Movement yesterday, Spotify announced updates to Spotify for Podcasters, including impression analytics, show page customization, and more. More: - Spotify Director of Podcast Product Austin Lemon gave the presentation at the conference in Denver and shared updates on Spotify for Podcasters.
- There are new customization features on Spotify, including linking to social media accounts from a bio, sharing the best episodes with listeners, and recommending other great content on Spotify.
- There is a new "Best Place to Start" feature that gives listeners the idea of where to pick up a podcast.
- New updates to the show page bio allow creators to talk up their show.
- "Host recommendations" can let listeners know what podcasters are listening to other than their own show.
- Creators will also have control over podcast previews, so it's not just auto-created. But Spotify for Podcasters's monetization program does offer automated ads to help podcasters grow their revenue.
Zoom Out: - Lemon also announced Megaphone, Spotify's new performance dashboard for the Spotify Audience Network. It focuses on analytics and data to show each podcaster how their show is doing from a listening and monetary perspective.

| 2 | | What the numbers say: If you listen to a ton of different podcasts each month, you're actually in the minority. Among 1,183 people surveyed, typically, they listen to between one and three different shows each month. 51.44% of respondents claimed this, while 29.65% say they listen to four to six. The percentage decreases for more shows than that, as 12.67% listen to seven to nine before, and only 6.25% say they have more than 10 shows a month they listen to. Relevance: Voices, a voiceover marketplace, released The Power of Podcasts, a report on the listening habits of Americans. It showed that podcasting has become a major form of media, as 73% of respondents said they have listened to a podcast in the past 12 months. The report dove into gender preferences for shows, how much people listen each week, why people listen, and how they discover new shows. More data: The report states that podcast advertising is projected to account for $3.53B of ad spend by 2026. It also found that most listeners don't have a preference for who is reading podcast ads. 62% of listeners are expecting to be entertained when they listen to a show, and 66% of true crime fans are women. | | |

| 3 | | Disney has decided to venture into the children's podcasting arena by announcing a new Frozen podcast series. The show will mark the 10-year anniversary of the animated hit and is the first time Disney is expanding one of its movies into a podcast. More: - The story will continue after Frozen 2 and present a completely original story.
- The show will be titled Forces of Nature and be a 12-episode series about a climate catastrophe that Elsa and Anna must help remedy.
- "This immersive series … taps into listeners' imagination and offers parents an engaging, screen-free experience to share with their children," said Liz Alesse, Vice President of ABC Audio, which is collaborating with Disney.
- An all-new cast will play the parts of the characters, so Idina Menzel and Kristen Bell will not be reprising their roles as Elsa and Anna.
- Disney also teased a third film, and Menzel confirmed she is in for the next movie.
- Forces of Nature will launch in October.

| 6 | | For the first time since Edison Research started tracking American listening habits in its Share of Ear report, more people are listening to on-demand platforms than linear ones. As shown in its Q2 2023 findings, listeners favor paid streaming, podcasts, and owned music to over-the-air radio or satellite radio. More: - Edison Research has been tracking this information for the past nine years, and on-demand platforms edged linear platforms 50.3% to 49.7% this quarter.
- This is for the listening habits of consumers 13 and older.
- The audio time spent on on-demand platforms has increased steadily for the past five years.
- Edison Research notes that on-demand will not force linear all the way to zero, but it is a safe bet that the on-demand platforms preference will continue to grow for the foreseeable future.
- The research institute sees the ability to pick exactly what you're listening to rather than let a DJ or radio host decide as one reason for the shift.
