| 2 | | What the data says: Across every age sector, people are listening to podcasts more frequently each week. For listeners 18 years of age, only 26% said they listened to less than an hour of podcasts a week in 2023, compared to 34% in 2022. The same trend was seen in adults between the ages of 18 and 34, as only 23% reported less than an hour of listening compared to 30% a year ago. 33% of adults 35-49 were less likely to listen to more than an hour of podcasts in 2022, but only 26% felt that way this year. For adults ages 50 and up, 40% reported last year that they weren't listening to more than an hour of podcasts a week, while just 32% said that this year. Relevance: Nielsen and Edison Research released their findings in the latest Podcasting Today insights report. It found that listening habits are starting to return to pre-pandemic levels of interest. Nearly two-thirds of Americans have listened to a podcast, as the report found that 64% of listeners ages 12 and up have. The report found that the typical podcast listener listens to about nine podcasts per month. More data: Listening in transit is on the rise across all age segments and ethnicities. The total number of monthly podcast listeners has grown 68% over the past five years, and it has become especially popular with the Hispanic population, as it has seen a 95% growth since 2018. | | |
