| 1 | | An AI-driven music producer operating under the pseudonym "Ghostwriter" has unveiled a new song release. The New York Times reports that the Ghostwriter team has quietly met with top figures in the music industry, including the Recording Academy, as they explore ways to integrate AI into songwriting. More: - Ghostwriter previously released "Heart on My Sleeve," an unauthorized track featuring deepfaked voices of artists Drake and The Weeknd.
- The song amassed millions of views and listens across platforms before it was pulled by most music streaming services earlier this year.
- On Tuesday, Ghostwriter returned with a fresh track titled "Whiplash," which employed AI vocal filters to emulate the styles of Travis Scott and 21 Savage.
Zoom out: - Both songs were human-created originals. Before incorporating AI components, Ghostwriter worked to emulate the content, delivery, tone, and phrasing of the artists, according to a spokesperson.
- The Ghostwriter team has submitted "Heart on My Sleeve" for consideration in two categories — best rap song and song of the year — at the upcoming Grammy Awards.

| 2 | | Attorneys general from all 50 states have urged Congress to address the use of AI in child exploitation. In a letter sent today to House and Senate leaders, the prosecutors called on lawmakers to expand restrictions on child sexual abuse materials to also cover AI-generated images and videos. More: - Currently, there are no U.S. laws that categorize AI-generated images similarly to other child sexual abuse materials.
- While image generators like Dall-E currently have safeguards against creating child sexual abuse materials, prosecutors worry about future open-source versions lacking proper restrictions.
- In the letter, the AGs said there is a "race against time" to protect children from AI's dangers.
- They asked lawmakers to form a commission of experts to study how AI technology "can be used to exploit children specifically."
- South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson led the effort to gather support from all states and territories.

| 3 | | Despite introducing the new AI-powered Bing and Bing AI Chat, Microsoft's search engine market share has remained largely unchanged this year, according to Statcounter's latest data. What the numbers show: Microsoft announced the new AI-powered Bing search engine in February. As of August, Bing's global market share was still around 3%, unchanged from January, according to Statcounter. Analytics from Similarweb indicate Bing's monthly visitors were around 1% of Google's in both January and July. Bing's U.S. share was also 6.47% in July, compared to over 7% in 2022. Still: Microsoft deems the new Bing a success and challenges external data, saying that third-party companies fail to account for all users who directly access Bing's chat page. A Microsoft spokesperson said Bing now claims over 100 million daily active users and highlighted its growth with new access points like Bing Chat Enterprise. Why it matters: Amid Google's dominant hold on the search engine realm, Microsoft's hopes of significant market share gain are facing challenges. Bing, in its competition with Google, introduced generative AI attributes like chatbots and visual search. Google also incorporates AI through its Search Generative Experience (SGE). Daniel Tunkelang, a search consultant with experience at Google and LinkedIn (now a Microsoft subsidiary), considers the new Bing "cute, but not a game changer." | | |
