Amazon will gain a minority stake in Anthropic, known for its AI-powered chatbot Claude 2. More: - Under the strategic collaboration, Amazon will incorporate Anthropic's AI technology into its products.
- Amazon cloud customers and engineers will gain early access to Anthropic's technology, including model customization and fine-tuning capabilities.

| 2 | | Meta plans to launch personality-driven AI chatbots on its platforms, with the rollout expected as soon as next week, per The Wall Street Journal. The "Gen AI Personas" are set to launch across Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp, targeting Gen Z users, who are the most frequent users of ChatGPT and could be more likely to embrace Meta's rival chatbots. Details: Meta's chatbots reportedly feature unique personalities, including "Bob the Robot," inspired by Futurama's sassy Bender character. Another bot, "Alvin the Alien," supposedly seeks personal information from users to better "understand humans." Other bots could be geared toward productivity, including coding assistance. What's next: Meta plans to develop "dozens" of the bots and is working on a tool to allow celebrities to create their own chatbots for fan interactions, according to the WSJ. The company is expected to announce the bots at its Meta Connect event on Sept. 27-28. Why it matters: According to the Journal, Meta aims to attract younger users with the chatbots, potentially increasing their time spent on the platforms and thus Meta's ad opportunities. Meghana Dhar, a former Snap and Instagram executive, said that while AI chatbots don't "exactly scream Gen Z to me," the generation tends to be "much more comfortable" with the technology. | | |

| 3 | | The Writers Guild of America (WGA) and major studios have a tentative deal that may end the ongoing writers' strike, offering higher royalties and protections against AI use in scriptwriting. Specific details are undisclosed, but the deal is said to have "groundbreaking additions" for AI use in TV and filmmaking. More: - The WGA had pushed for tighter restrictions on AI-generated scripts, whereas studios aimed for greater flexibility to explore the technology.
- Nearly 12,000 WGA members will now vote on the deal, which includes minimum writer staffing rules, higher residuals, and the AI-generated script restrictions.
- The deal reportedly ensures AI won't affect writers' credits and compensation. It also boosts writer pay, especially for streaming content.
- Picketing stopped Sunday, but the strike continues until WGA members approve the deal.

The "commercially safe" tool generates images from text prompts, providing customers with a royalty-free license and protection against copyright lawsuits. More: - The "Generative AI by Getty Images" tool is built on Nvidia's Edify text-to-visual AI model and trained on a portion of Getty's roughly 477 million assets.

- All images generated by the tool are watermarked as AI-generated.
Zoom out: - In Feburary, Getty Images sued Stability AI, the creator of the Stable Diffusion image generator, alleging copyright infringement.
- A study of 12 million photos from Stable Diffusion's training dataset indicated that more than 15,000 of those photos came from Getty.
