Creator Corner

by Trace Dominguez

Uno Dos of Trace

One of my first memories of "science" was mixing baking soda, vinegar, and food coloring in my parent's sink. As it bubbled over and turned my mom's sink green I felt an intense feeling of curiosity and remember shouting "Huh!? Wow!" My mom was mad, but I needed to know more. So, I studied science. I read encyclopedias, signed up for science workshops, went Space Camp. I loved it! That said, I was limited by the technology of my time. I could only learn what I thought to ask.

Today, we aren't limited to our own curiosities. We have access to a medley of nerds sharing their "Huh?! Wow!" Moments from all over the world. Each podcast, video, or post is another "Huh?! Wow!" Moment that a creator just had to share. It's amazing.

Nebula is chock full of creators sharing these "Huh?! Wow!" moments. For my content: I love interviewing people. I ask questions and let them nerd-out as much as they like. There is inevitably, always a "Huh?! Wow!" Moment in every interview. It's my favorite part.

When I watch Nebula creators' videos, I love seeing their "Huh?! Wow!" Moments. They often get stuck in my brain like the green stain on my mother's sink. These new ideas and curiosities combine with my own creating a new library of questions and help make my own work better.

Science is a process used to answer questions about nature, the universe, and ourselves, but science is also a shared mission to build a library of knowledge. Nebula is sort of that too. We ask questions, we follow our curiosity, and we share that with each other, and you; hopefully causing you to cry, "Huh?! Wow!" — Just don't stain your mom's sink... cleaning it up takes forever.

What I'm watching on Nebula:

Unrated

Maggie Mae Fish explores the taboo history (and present) of the movie biz. I guess I should have realized that movies had these seedy understories, but the high-gloss polish of 21st century Hollywood hides it well. I really liked learning these stories. It made me see movies even more for what they really are: another nerdy artful form of expression!

That Time When

My friend Anita Sarkeesian digs into times when politics and pop culture collided. Remember the Superbowl "wardrobe malfunction" half-time show? That's in there. The whole story. It happened when I was a kid so I didn't know why everyone was so up-in-arms! The facts are fascinating.

Crime Spree

Sort of a spiritual brother to Wendover's Jet Lag, in Crime Spree we get to watch three friends break a bunch of innocuous laws across several US states while trying to predict where each other will end up. The laws are silly, the hijinks are fun, and the strategy is compelling. I definitely laughed out loud more than once.

What's New

Meet the newest creators on Nebula

He makes spooky and creepy animations about the grim and creepy origins of fairy tales and other stories, as well as over-analyze books, movies, and shows!

A science educator and cosmetic chemist with a PhD in chemistry from Sydney, Australia. She's here to help you work out which beauty products are worth buying and which aren't, using science!

Toxicologist telling stories in medicine. These are variations on cases him, or his colleagues, have seen in the past. The main goal of these videos are to tell a story about people, as we each have a unique story to tell.
