| 2 | | What the data says: Sony Group has seen its revenue spike toward the end of each year in the past few years. It found its way out of the COVID-19 pandemic with a strong close to 2020, earning $25.88B in Q4 2020. The revenue rose to new heights at the end of 2021, reaching a high of $26.67B in Q4 2021. But revenue dropped in 2022, only reaching $24.23B in Q4 2022. Sony registered $21.63B in Q2 2023. Relevance: Sony Group laid off staff in its podcast business earlier this week, marking the third time in less than two years that Sony has made cuts to that sector of the business. In May, Sony cut podcast staff on its narrative team, and in March 2022, it laid off members at its Three Uncanny Four studio. More data: Sony Group also ended a podcast, High Low with EmRata, hosted by model Emily Ratajkowski. According to sources that spoke to Bloomberg, the show struggled to sell advertising in the U.S., as a large part of the audience was international. Ratajkowski will seek another home for her show. | | |
