| 4 | | Microsoft unveiled its plan to retire Exchange Web Services (EWS) from October 2026 and advised developers to migrate to Microsoft Graph. The XML-based API was launched in Exchange Server 2007. More: - Microsoft is retiring EWS only to Microsoft 365 and Exchange Online (all environments), and there are no changes to EWS in Exchange Server.
- In 2018, Microsoft said it would freeze EWS, its Basic Authentication access would be unsupported from October 2020, and that it would no longer receive updates.
- However, developers continued to use EWS as it allows access to services that Microsoft Graph does not, such as access to public folders and archive mailboxes.
- Microsoft said it is working on bridging these gaps in Microsoft Graph but noted that some features and functionalities might not get added.
