| Hello Inside Streaming readers! The reviews on Wes Anderson's first Roald Dahl short, "The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar," have been terrific, so I'm looking forward to checking it out later today. Plus there are three more Anderson-directed Dahl adaptations coming to Netflix over the next few days. (One of them is based on "Poison," a two--page Dahl story you can read here.) Be sure to keep an eye out for those, and thanks for reading! Lon p/lon-harris | |
| 1 | | The Writers Guild of America (WGA) revealed details of their tentative new three-year contract with studios and streamers to members. The new deal places limitations on the use of AI by studios, includes higher foreign residuals and annual minimum pay increases, and ensures a second "step" for screenwriter agreements. More: - Under the new agreement, studios may not use AI as source material, and hire writers to adapt its output.
- Writers can still use AI if the company they are working for gives the okay, but they can't be forced into a collaboration.
- Though many had hoped for full transparency on streaming viewership, a compromise was reached instead; if projects are viewed by 20% or more of a platform's domestic subscribers in its first 90 days, the writers will secure a bonus.
- The union will also get confidential access to more specific data, but can only share that information with membership "in aggregated form."
- The studios and streamers also agreed to a minimum staff size of three writer-producers for a first season show, with a formula for additional seasons tied to the number of episodes.
- A ratification vote will be held for the contract from October 2 through the 9th.
