| 3 | | For the first time ever, the Pulitzer Prizes are opening up entries and eligibilities to broadcast and audio companies that also offer digital news stories. The entries will still require written journalism. More: - Broadcast news outlets have been historically prohibited from submitting entries because the Pulitzer Prizes are awarded for text-based journalism.
- With the change in news outlets focusing on rich websites, sources like CNN, NPR, ABC, CBS, and NBC are eligible to submit entries from their websites for eligibility.
- "There's no such thing as newspaper and broadcast anymore," said NBC News senior vice president and head of news standards Brian Carovillano. "We're all digital news operations. We're all operating on multiple platforms."
- The Pulitzer Prize Board noted that while video may be included in the entry of a story, these are not awards for broadcast journalism.
- The change will go into effect in December, when the nominations for the 2024 Pulitzer Prizes open.
