| 1 | | The U.S.-based trading firm Jump Trading has recently cut its ties with cross-chain protocol Wormhole. The move came after the crypto market saw a consistent downward trend in trading volumes despite a rise in token prices. More: - As part of the departure, many senior Wormhole employees, including CEO Saeed Badreg and Chief Operating Officer (COO) Anthony Ramirez, left Jump Trading to operate Wormhole as an independent entity.
- Before the split, Wormhole operated under the roof of Jump Crypto, the digital asset-focused arm of Jump Trading.
- The move caused the workforce of Jump Crypto to reduce by half after reaching a peak of around 150 in 2022.
- The project was originally developed by the team of Certus One, a crypto firm acquired by Jump Trading in 2021.
- The protocol serves as a crypto bridge that links different blockchains to make transactions easier and allows developers to build decentralized applications (dApps) covering the entire blockchain ecosystem.
Zoom Out: - On the other hand, Wormhole was hacked for $320M by malevolent actors in February 2022 through the breach of security vulnerabilities in its software.
- At the time, Jump Trading compensated for the stolen funds within a day.

| 2 | | What the numbers say: Former OpenAI CEO Sam Altman's crypto project, Worldcoin, has seen significant ups and downs in the price of its native token, WLD, over the weekend. From Nov. 17 to 20, the token's value ranged between $1.83 and $2.65. The popular cryptocurrency opened the weekend with a downward trend before retreating to as low as $1.83. Then, it turned back to its average levels. However, within the past 24-hour period, the token experienced a jump in price and increased to as much as $2.65. This upward trend was also followed by a return to the average prices. Relevance: The fall in WLD's price at the beginning of last weekend came shortly after Sam Altman was fired as CEO of OpenAI by the company's board of directors. At the time, the board cited a deliberate review process, adding that it no longer has confidence in Altman's ability to continue leading OpenAI. The firm's co-founder, Greg Brockman, was also removed from the board alongside Altman. The WLD token reacted to the surprising announcement of the board negatively with a sudden price decrease. Brands that should care: On the other hand, Microsoft, one of the biggest investors in OpenAI, has recently announced that both Altman and Brockman will join the tech giant to lead the new advanced AI research team. The announcement was made directly by Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella. Meanwhile, OpenAI hired Twitch co-founder Emmett Shear as its new CEO. Altman's joining Microsoft also created a reaction in the WLD token, increasing its price to as much as $2.65. | | |
