| 1 | | Goodpods, a podcast app, added long AI-generated descriptions of podcasts on its website last week, only to remove them after creator concerns were voiced. The descriptions were added to the website without the knowledge or consent of the podcasters. More: - The write-ups were very vague and often did not describe what a show was actually about. They were instantly recognizable as something coming from an AI large language model.
- Goodpods said that these were written up as tests for approximately 0.2% of the total podcasts on its website as an experiment.
- It extended not only to shows but individual episodes as well, with write-ups attempting to describe what the episode was about.
- "We tested human-generated, AI-generated, and a combination of human/AI-generated content," JJ Ramberg, the co-founder of Goodpods, told Podnews. "We usually hit the mark when we're testing new features. Occasionally, though, new features don't land. While some of the AI-generated descriptions were quite good, and we received messages from podcasters who were very pleased, too many of them missed the mark. For that reason, we decided to end the test and are in the process of pulling them down."
- Content creators cited concerns as the inaccurate descriptions could damage the reputations of the shows and provide potential listeners with the wrong depiction of what the show is.

| 2 | | What the numbers say: Two-thirds of podcasters have used AI for their productions. A recent study found that 66% of podcasters regularly use AI for their podcasts. The predominant use of AI in the podcasting space is for promotion, while nearly 30% use it to help create their podcasts. Almost a quarter of respondents said they use it for editing purposes. Relevance: Headliner, a platform that helps promote podcasts with videos, released a study about AI in Podcasting. They received 248 responses in their survey asking different questions surrounding AI in podcasting. The results overwhelmingly showed that podcasters utilize the technology already, and it is likely to continue growing in the future. The study also found that the three top platforms for AI usage in podcasting were Headliner, ChatGPT, and Canva. More data: What podcasters found to be the most positive use of AI was that it saved them time. Nearly a quarter of respondents thought that it gave them good ideas. It helps with content creation and automating the process. The biggest negatives when it comes to using AI for podcasting are difficult prompting (26%), accuracy concerns (22%), and the learning curve (11%). | | |
