| 1 | | Nvidia announced its new H200 chip, the "world's most powerful GPU" for accelerating AI applications. The new GPU is an upgrade of Nvidia's popular H100 AI chip, which helped to train OpenAI's GPT-4. More: - Nvidia said the H200 is designed to "fuel the acceleration of generative AI and large language models,"
- The new generation is based on Nvidia's Hopper chip architecture and its H200 Tensor Core GPU.
- Nvidia said it's working with system manufacturers and cloud service providers to make the chips available starting in Q2 2024.
Key upgrades - The H200 is compatible with its H100.
- A key improvement is the H200's next-gen "HBM3" memory, delivering 141GB of memory at 4.8 terabytes per second.
- The H200 has 1.4x more memory bandwidth and 1.8x more memory capacity than its predecessor.
- Nvidia claims the H200 can deliver nearly double the inference speed for large language models compared to the H100.

| 2 | | U.S. President Joe Biden and China's President Xi Jinping are expected to announce a deal limiting the use of AI in autonomous weapons and nuclear control systems. Sources told The South China Morning Post that the leaders could unveil the pledge when they meet on Wednesday at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in San Francisco. Details: One of the key topics on the conference agenda is the widespread adoption of AI in military technologies. According to the Post, Biden and Xi are expected to commit to an agreement that restricts the application of AI in autonomous weaponry, such as drones. The deal would also place restrictions on systems that control and deploy nuclear warheads, sources said. Zoom out: In February, the U.S., China, and other countries signed a non-legally binding statement backing responsible AI use by militaries. More than 60 countries pledged the commitment to creating and deploying military AI in compliance with "international legal obligations and in a way that does not undermine international security, stability, and accountability." Meanwhile, most of the world opposes the use of lethal autonomous weapons systems in warfare, according to research by Ipsos and the Campaign to Stop Killer Robots. Sweden, Turkey, and Hungary respondents had the highest opposition to lethal autonomous weapons, while India had the strongest support. Adults in the U.S. and China, however, were less opposed to AI weapons than the world average. | | |

"The vision is to make artificial general intelligence (AGI), figure out how to make it safe, and figure out the benefits," Altman said. More: - Speaking with FT, Altman said OpenAI's partnership with Microsoft and CEO Satya Nadella was "working really well."
- Altman expects "to raise a lot more over time" from Microsoft and others to cover the high costs of developing advanced AI models.

| 5 | | Google is suing five individuals accused of deceiving users into downloading a harmful version of its Bard AI software. The company claims the alleged scammers, likely based in Vietnam, used social media and ads to promote a phony Bard download, which contained malware instead of the expected chatbot. More: - In the lawsuit filed today in California, Google accused the scammers of exploiting trademarks such as "Google AI" and "AIGoogleBard" to entice users to install the malware.
- This allowed the defendants to steal victims' login credentials for social media platforms, according to the filing.
- In a blog post today, Google general counsel Halimah DeLaine Prado said scammers are seizing opportunities to exploit unsuspecting users as excitement grows around new generative AI tools.
- The company's lawsuit is part of Google's efforts to "establish needed legal precedents in emerging fields of innovation," DeLaine Prado wrote.
- She noted that Google issued more than 300 takedown requests since April before taking legal action.
