| 2 | | What the data says: Comedy video podcasts are the most popular genre on Spotify. They have a resounding 27.55% share of all the video podcasts consumed on the platform. Leisure, which includes gaming and hobbies, is second with 16.21%, and Society & Culture video podcasts come in third with 12.01%. Business is the only other podcast genre that has a percentage over 10%, earning 10.31%. Relevance: Spotify for Podcasters released its Fan Study 2023, which provides data-driven insights into fans listening and viewing habits for podcasts. It is based on Spotify listener consumption and creator practices and is focused on three different sections: video podcasts, listening trends, and how audiences interact with their favorite shows. More data: Video podcasts are more likely to be consumed between 6 p.m. and midnight, while audio podcasts are more likely to be consumed between 1 a.m. and 5 p.m. The most common months that listeners will try new podcasts are January, March, July, and October. Most podcasts are listened to during weekdays. The study found that the No. 1 way people find out about new podcasts is by hearing about them on a show they already listen to. | | |

| 3 | | We recently sat down with Ross Adams, the CEO of Acast, the world's largest independent podcast company. Over the course of our conversation, we discussed the importance of independent podcasting, how important AI is to the future of podcasting, how Acast has changed over his time there, and why the creator is at the heart of the podcasting industry. Here's a sneak peek at the highlights: When asked about the importance of independent podcasting for creators, Adams said that because podcasts are distributed in different ways compared to other media, "being independent means that we distribute content every single place where you can listen to podcasts. We are platform agnostic. We don't mind where you listen to the content." After Acast subsidiary Podchaser launched Predictive Demographics, a predictive language modeling capability that will give advertisers a better look at the audiences of podcasts, the future of AI in the industry was thrust into the discussion. Adams said he believes AI is hugely important, but "I think it obviously depends on how you use it, but I think if you look at what Podchaser has done there, it really helps accelerate data within the industry." He also said that AI will help advertisers because "cookies are dying over time. Data and first-party data especially is becoming harder and harder to use and, therefore, understanding the audience is of utmost importance for advertisers to invest in more over time in podcasting." Finally, on how he's seen the Swedish company change over his time there, Adams cited how it saw podcasting as an opportunity and helped cement its place in the $2B+ industry. "Our initial foray into the space was about applying the right digital metrics so we could attract digital advertising budgets across the space, creating dynamic ad insertion. We were the first to do that, which has become table stakes now within podcasting. So, from the technology place we were to where it is today, a lot of people have adopted that technology, so we've seen huge trends in the entire market shifting towards the model we created." | 5 | | Body hair and care brand Flamingo premiered the first episode of its podcast, Unruly, produced by Audacy's Pineapple Street Studios, on Wednesday. The show is set to "unpack the quiet ways women's bodies are commodified, defined, and regulated by social media, the medical profession, the beauty industry, and more." More: - Flamingo, a brand of Harry's Inc., promotes body neutrality, which is a concept that highlights taking a neutral stance toward your own body even if you don't necessarily love how it looks or feels.
- The podcast is hosted by Kimberly Drew and will run for eight episodes, featuring discussions on women's bodies through lived experiences.
- "As a brand, Flamingo promises to put women in control," said Maggie Hureau, Head of Social Impact at Harry's, Inc. "We also know that there are many issues women face in today's society that do not get the attention they deserve, creating an information gap that makes it difficult to make confident decisions around our own bodies. Unruly is a project we're so proud to release, especially with a partner like Kimberly, a long-time advocate for women's issues."
- Guests will include body image coach Tiffany Ima, Jessica DeFino, Rachel E. Gross, and Dr. Marcia Inhorn.
