| 1 | | Google is introducing new AI tools for YouTube that allow users to create music tracks using text prompts or hummed melodies. One of the experimental tools, Dream Track, can generate 30-second music clips in the style of nine different artists, including Charli XCX, Demi Lovato, and John Legend. More: - With Dream Track, users can type in a text-based prompt and select one of the artists, all of whom have collaborated with Google on the project.
- The AI then auto-generates an original song snippet in that artist's voice and style.
- The songs are exclusively for use on YouTube Shorts, the platform's TikTok-like short-form video section.
- Dream Track is now being tested with a "small group of select U.S. creators."
Zoom out: - YouTube is also developing and testing other Music AI Tools, including one that generates tracks from humming.
- Dream Track and the other tools are powered by Google DeepMind's advanced music-generation model, Lyria.
- Tracks created with Lyria will have a SynthID watermark that can be used to track the source.

| 2 | | Meta announced new AI tools that can edit photos as well as generate video clips from text prompts. According to Mark Zuckerberg, Meta is working to integrate the "creative editing capabilities" into Instagram and Facebook, though he hasn't shared a timeline or release date. More: - The AI-powered tools are based on Meta's Expressive Media Universe (Emu) foundational model, which generates images.
- With Emu Video, users can input a text, image, or a combination of both to generate a four-second-long animated clip.
- Meanwhile, Emu Edit lets users "precisely" edit and alter photos — like removing or replacing objects — using only text prompts.
- According to The Verge, it doesn't appear Emu Edit users need to manually select the image section that they want to modify.
- Emu Video clips can also be edited with Emu Edit using natural language descriptions.

| 3 | | Leading computer science professors in an Axios-Generation Lab-Syracuse University AI Experts Survey believe that AI's audio and video deepfake capabilities are now at the advanced level. Of those surveyed, 68% found the capabilities moderately advanced, while 27% considered them highly advanced. More: When asked about countering AI deepfake misuse, the computer science professors chose digital authenticity certification as the most effective approach (39%), followed by public education on deepfakes (29%), improved detection technology (18%), and stricter regulations (13%). The bigger picture: Generative AI, particularly with audio deepfakes, has advanced to a point where it poses a major challenge distinguishing genuine content from manipulated audio and video. To tackle the problem, social media platforms are asking creators to label their AI content and removing deepfakes that mimic or use someone's likeness without their permission. YouTube is the latest to announce plans to alert viewers when they're watching a video made with AI. The U.K. is also exploring plans that would require companies to label deepfake photos and videos. | | |
| 4 | | Spotify is using Google Cloud's AI to help improve tailored recommendations for its podcasts and audiobooks. Spotify will use Google Cloud's large language models to gain deeper insights into the patterns of its "spoken content," which should improve its ability to deliver personalized recommendations. More: - The LLMs will help Spotify analyze the 350,000 audiobooks and 5 million podcasts across its content library.
- The move could help Spotify better understand the breadth of the library and "augment" the metadata — like title, show notes, host name, etc. — that's used to present the audiobooks and podcasts to customers, according to a news release.
- Spotify has worked with Google Cloud since 2016. Through the expanded AI partnership, Spotify will also explore using LLMs to identify potentially harmful content,
