| Good morning/afternoon, and thanks for opening today's Inside Streaming. I'll join the chorus of people recommending Netflix's brilliantly-made Spanish-language hit "Society of the Snow." Though director J.A. Bayona tastefully keeps the most grisly imagery off-camera, it's still HARROWING, and not an easy film to watch. But the intimate, non-fussy performances from the central cast (many of whom are first-time actors) give it a real immersive, lived-in kind of realism that's hard to shake. The film's very impressive on a technical level, and could even have a shot at some Oscars, unless "Oppenheimer" sweeps those categories. Thanks for reading! We'll see you back here tomorrow. | 2 | | After just 11 days on Netflix, the Spanish-language survival thriller "Society of the Snow" already received around 51 million views. That's good enough to grab the #10 spot on the streamer's most popular non-English language films of all time chart. More: - Netflix compares viewing stats for films over their first 91 days on the service, so "Society of the Snow" has plenty of time left to climb the charts.
- In its first four days on Netflix, "Society of the Snow" was the third most-watched international title of all time; only Norway's "Troll" and Spain's "Nowhere" received more views in this time frame.
- The film is considered a potential contender for several Oscars, and has been shortlisted in the international feature, make-up and hairstyling, original score, and visual effects categories.
- "Society of the Snow," from Spanish filmmaker J.A. Bayona, relates the true story of an Uruguayan rugby team in the 1970s who became stranded in the Andes following a devastating plane crash.

| 4 | | The Big Lead pointed out that the NFL likely missed out on millions of viewers by exclusively streaming the AFC Wild Card playoff game on Peacock. While Saturday's Peacock exclusive game between the Kansas City Chiefs and Miami Dolphins was streamed by around 23 million viewers, those numbers were significantly lower than all of the weekend's other playoff games. More: - Fox's broadcast of the Green Bay Packers vs. the Dallas Cowboys received 40 million viewers, while a Detroit Lions/LA Rams game on NBC garnered 36 million viewers.
- Writer Ryan Phillips argued that the Chiefs/Dolphins match-up potentially could have outdrawn some of those other games, if it were broadcast on conventional television; the Chiefs are defending Super Bowl champions, and pop star Taylor Swift was in attendance.
- Phillips also suggests that the Peacock-only game was likely a "long-term play" designed to test out the viability of streaming-exclusive broadcasts.
