| 1 | | New Hampshire's attorney general is investigating an AI-generated robocall mimicking President Joe Biden that urged Democrats not to vote in the state's primary election. Biden won't appear on the state's Democratic ballot Tuesday. In a statement, the AG's office said the robocalls appear to be an illegal attempt to disrupt the primary and suppress state voters. More: - In the calls, a voice similar to Biden's claimed voting on Tuesday "only enables the Republicans in their quest to elect Donald Trump again."
- The recording mimics Biden by using his common phrase, "What a bunch of malarkey," and advises listeners to "save your vote" for November.
- Listeners were also given the contact info of Kathy Sullivan, a former NH Democratic Party chair and leader of a super PAC urging voters to write in Biden's name in the state primary.
- After hearing the calls, Sullivan filed a complaint with the NH AG's office, saying that "these kinds of tactics, if left unpunished, will only get worse in the future."

| 2 | | New research suggests that AI job automation will be significant but gradual, as AI is not yet economically viable for widespread job replacement. The study from MIT's Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL) specifically focused on jobs involving visual analysis tasks that could be replaced by computer vision technology, which recognizes and categorizes objects in images and videos. More: - The study found that human labor is generally more cost-effective than AI in the area of computer vision, which includes tasks like analyzing X-ray images for healthcare.
- Specifically, the findings showed that while AI can automate tasks representing 1.6% of U.S. worker wages, only 23% of these wages — or 0.4% of the total economy—- would currently be more cost-effective to automate than to pay human workers.
- It highlights that AI-driven job automation could occur more slowly and less dramatically than some experts have predicted, said Neil Thompson, an MIT CSAIL research scientist and a study co-author.
- "Even though there is some change that is coming, there is also some time to adapt to it," he said.
Zoom out: - Notably, the study didn't examine job tasks that could be done by large language models like ChatGPT.
- A report last year by Goldman Sachs analysts predicts generative AI has the potential to expose 300 million full-time workers to automation.
- The report predicts "significant disruption" to the world's labor market from AI. The economists estimated that about two-thirds of jobs in the U.S. and Europe could be altered by AI automation in some form.

| 3 | OpenAI has suspended a developer account for using its AI tools to create a voice-replicating chatbot of U.S. presidential candidate Dean Phillips. The developer behind "Dean.Bot" violated OpenAI's API usage policies, a spokesperson confirmed. More: - The bot violated policies that ban the use of OpenAI tech for political campaigning by impersonating someone without their consent.
- Dean.Bot is the brainchild of the super PAC "We Deserve Better," which supports Phillips, a Democratic congressman and White House hopeful from Minnesota.
- The PAC was founded by Matt Krisiloff, formerly chief of staff to OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, and Jed Somers, COO of Owner.
- The PAC hired Delphi, an AI startup, to create the bot using OpenAI software. Krisiloff asked Delphi to remove ChatGPT from the bot and use open-source models instead.
