| Thanks for opening today's Inside Streaming daily brief, and welcome! We're glad to have you. NBCUniversal spent around $100 million on Saturday's exclusive NFL Wild Card playoff game, and at least in the short-term, the deal seems to have paid off. Peacock set a new record for simultaneous viewership without crashing, and the game brought additional attention to the second-tier streamer which at time struggles to get noticed against higher-profile rivals. Even the new Seth MacFarlane comedy series "Ted" appears to have gotten a boost from NFL fans checking out Peacock for the first time. Did Peacock get $100 million worth of new attention? What would that even look like? We're still early enough into the streaming era that these things can be a bit hard to evaluate and codify directly. Nonetheless, at this point, making any kind of big eyeball-grabbing statement in the streaming world is a major challenge. So NBCU got SOMETHING valuable for its $100 million at least. Enjoy today's issue. We'll see you back here tomorrow. Lon p/lon-harris | |
