In a Nutshell Aside from having to feed my hungry cat, coffee is what inspires me to drag myself out of bed each morning. But before I enjoy my freshly brewed cup of morning motivation, I need to eat breakfast. If I don't, I feel super jittery, anxious, and disconnected from my hunger cues most of the day. On the other hand, most people I know can't function without having 1 or 3 cups immediately after they wake up. For example, mixing in cow milk can lead to stomach aches, bloating, or diarrhea in people who are lactose intolerant. Higher caffeine counts may also affect you differently. Maybe an iced cold brew is too strong for you and causes jitters but an iced latte feels just right.️ So, back to the big question: Should you drink coffee on an empty stomach? As long as you feel good doing it, keep on keeping on! It turns out I am just sensitive to caffeine, and there's no real harm in enjoying your morning cup before eating.️️ If you experience a racing heartbeat, jitters, increased anxiety, or restlessness doing it, you may have a caffeine sensitivity like me.
