1 | A whitepaper published by developer analytics company GitClear indicates that AI-based tools have led to an increase in code churn. The research is based on an analysis of 150 million changed lines of code. More: - GitClear analyzed the data from private corporations and open-source projects to identify code added, updated, deleted, copied, or moved.
- The research pointed out that AI assistants provide suggestions for added code but not for updating, moving, or deleting code.
- The researchers added that code suggestion algorithms are taught to provide suggestions that are most likely to be accepted.
- The code churn rate has increased from 3.3% in 2020 to 7.1%.

2 | Google added the ability to preview apps on Project IDX using its iOS simulator and Android emulator. Google launched Project IDX, an experimental, cloud-based workspace for full-stack, multiplatform development, in August last year. More: - The web and Android emulators allow developers to develop, test, and debug in their workspace. Meanwhile, iOS simulation enables the quick check of an app's layout and behavior.
- Both the features are experimental, and Google is requesting developers to test them and share their feedback.
- Additionally, Google added templates for Astro, Go, Python/Flask, Qwik, Lit, Preact, Solid.js, and Node.js.
- Also, Google announced Nix improvements to boost productivity, new IDX features for building, testing, and deploying apps, and launched AI capabilities in 15 more countries.

3 | Apple announced new options for streaming games and mini-program apps globally for delivering in-app experiences to users. Developers can now submit a single app with the ability to stream all the games in their catalog. More: - Apple intends to allow mini-apps, mini-games, chatbots, and plug-ins to add Apple's In-App Purchase system for offering paid digital content or services.
- Further, Apple introduced new analytics for developers, with over 50 new reports to help developers analyze their app performance and find opportunities for improvement.
- The new analytics, which will be available in March, offers insights into engagement, commerce, app usage, framework usage, and additional information about report details and access.
- Developers providing third-party or social login services will have the option to offer Sign-in with Apple or an equivalent privacy-focused login service.

4 | Android announced the release of Jetpack Compose 1.6, which focuses on performance improvements. Android said it is continuing to migrate modifiers and improve the efficiency of major parts of its API. More: - The recent performance upgrades have resulted in an additional ~20% improvement in scroll performance and ~12% improvement in startup time in benchmarks.
- A new compiler option in Compose compiler 1.5.5 enables developers to mark any class as stable, including their modules, external library classes, and standard library classes.
- The release also comes with an experimental mode called strong skipping mode, where composables featuring can skip recomposition when identical object instances are passed to their parameters.
- Other additional features include support for LookaheadScope in Lazy lists, fixed composables not being filtered by default from semantics trees, Spline-based keyframes in animations, and added support for selection by mouse, including text.
