| 1 | | AWS announced the general availability of Amazon Bedrock, a fully managed service that offers high-performing foundation models for building generative AI applications. Amazon announced the service's private preview in April and updated it with new models and tools in July. More: - Amazon Bedrock offers foundation models from AI companies such as AI21 Labs, Anthropic, Cohere, Meta, and Stable Diffusion through a single API.
- According to the announcement, Amazon Bedrock aims to provide capabilities to simplify development while maintaining privacy and security.
- Amazon CodeWhisperer capability, soon to be available in preview, will provide code suggestions based on an organization's own internal codebase.
- Benefits of Amazon Bedrock include the choice and flexibility to use the right foundation model, increased developer productivity, model customization with user data, and data security and compliance certifications.
- According to StackOverflow Developer Survey 2023, nearly one-third of developers are using AI-based tools for improving productivity, while a quarter are using it for faster learning.

| 2 | | Google introduced the list of new WebGPU features in Chrome 118. Google released the beta version earlier this month with scoped styles for CSS, additional media features, keyboard-focusable scroll containers, and more. Here are the highlight features: - GPUQueue's copyExternalImageToTexture() method now allows copying snapshots taken from HTMLImageElement and ImageData objects into a specified GPUTexture.
- The storage structure binding type permits texture reading without the need for sampling and storing arbitrary positions in shaders.
- The above feature is at an experimental stage and could change in future versions.
- The new DawnInfo program, available when building dawn samples, lets developers list toggles, adapters, adapter features, and adapter limits.

| A message from our sponsor, Paragon. | | | Can't keep up with your customers' requests for integrations? Read this Build vs. Buy: Native Integrations Guide Your B2B SaaS company needs to provide seamless native integrations to sell into the market today. Look at the leaders in every category. HubSpot, Atlassian, Slack - all of these companies built moats around their integration ecosystem. However, the engineering effort required to build and maintain dozens of native integrations is significant, which is why companies backlog these requests. This leaves revenue on the table from the closed lost deals against competitors, churn, and a lack of upsell levers. Embedded integration platforms streamline the integration development process, but adopting one isn't an easy decision - there are tradeoffs you need to consider. Read our in-depth comparison guide below that covers the factors your engineering team needs to consider when making a Build vs. Buy decision. Get the guide | |

| 3 | | A recent report from Checkmarx revealed that several GitHub repositories, including private ones, were compromised with malicious code. Checkmarx's scanners detected commits to hundreds of repositories with contributions from Dependabot and containing malicious code. More: - Miscreants posted fake commit messages to disguise malicious code as Dependabot automated contributions in the commit history.
- Compromised victims told Checkmarx that their GitHub personal access token was stolen and used to contribute malicious code.
- Attackers used the victims' GitHub tokens to compromise private GitHub organizations' repositories, too.
- Checkmarx is still investigating how the attackers gained access to personal access tokens. According to initial predictions, it could be due to a malicious open-source package installed on their PC.

| 4 | | IBM unveiled the first models in the watsonx Granite model series, which uses generative AI to work with language and code modalities. IBM confirmed that standard contractual intellectual property protections will be applicable to watsonx AI models. More: - IBM developed the foundation models on datasets from the following domains: internet, academic, code, legal, and finance.
- The Granite models are based on decoder-only architecture and seek to help businesses with different use cases scale AI.
- It also offers flexibility to use third-party models like Meta's Llama 2-chat 70-billion-parameter model and models from Hugging Face.
- IBM plans to release wastonx.governance, an AI governance toolkit to enable trusted AI workflow, later this year.
