| 1 | | Microsoft's C# language closed in on Java in the Tiobe index of programming language popularity. The difference between the two programming languages is just 1.2%, and if the trend continues, C# is expected to surpass Java in two months. More: - Java experienced the largest YoY decline of 3.92%, while C# recorded the largest YoY gain of 3.29%.
- Tiobe attributed the decline in Java's popularity to Oracle's decision to introduce a paid license model after Java 8.
- According to Paul Jansen, CEO of Tiobe Software, other reasons for Java's decline include very few changes to the language's definition and the rise of Kotlin, which is easier to use and free of charge.
- The Tiobe Index calculates a language's popularity using a formula to tally the number of skilled engineers, courses, and third-party vendors pertinent to each language.
Q: How has Oracle's decision to introduce a paid license model for Java affected your programming language preferences? Join the conversation here. | | |
| 2 | | Researchers and Checkmarx and Phylum discovered suspicious packages in the PyPi repository for Python. These specific packages were first uploaded last month, targeting Alibaba Cloud, Tencent Cloud, Telegram, and AWS users. More: - Researchers noted that the packages were disguised as cloud provider SDKs, which offered genuine functionality but sent credentials to a concealed remote URL.
- The primary focus of the malicious packages was to steal credentials and secret keys, with the intent to facilitate further attacks on the targeted companies or to steal their resources.
- The packages employed techniques such as typesquatting, starjacking, hidden functions, and copying GitHub packages.
- Checkmarx researchers recommended that maintainers of popular projects on GitHub have a placeholder package on platforms like PyPi to stop opportunistic attackers.

| 4 | | Stack Overflow CEO Prasanth Chandrasekar announced the company is laying off 28% of its employees. Through the layoffs, the company is reducing the sizes of its go-to-market organization, support teams, and other teams. More: - The company is also restructuring the remaining workforce to focus on its Overflow AI offering, which launched in July.
- Chandrashekar cited macroeconomic conditions for the layoffs expected to affect around 100 employees.

- Recently, Stack Overflow refuted claims that its website traffic has dropped 35% to 50% due to changes to its Google Analytics configuration.

Read this Build vs. Buy: Native Integrations Guide Your B2B SaaS company needs to provide seamless native integrations to sell into the market today. Look at the leaders in every category. HubSpot, Atlassian, Slack - all of these companies built moats around their integration ecosystem. However, the engineering effort required to build and maintain dozens of native integrations is significant, which is why companies backlog these requests. This leaves revenue on the table from the closed lost deals against competitors, churn, and a lack of upsell levers. Embedded integration platforms streamline the integration development process, but adopting one isn't an easy decision - there are tradeoffs you need to consider.
