| 6 | | Kast Media, the podcast company that came under scrutiny for missing payments to its creators, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in California. The company was accused by Theo Von, Whitney Cummings, and others of failing to pay millions of dollars for content. More: - The company had nearly $700,000 in assets and more than $6.3M in liabilities, according to the bankruptcy filing.

- Kast owes Von's company $456,398, according to the filing.
- More debts include podcast content, subscription services, and legal services.
Zoom Out: - After Von and other creators came out against Kast Media, Thomson formally or informally offered creators deals that would pay them a partial amount of the money owed and the rest in shares of PodcastOne as PodcastOne was acquiring Kast Media at the time.
- The condition for this deal was that the creators would bring their shows to PodcastOne, a subsidiary of LiveOne. 70% of creators needed to bring their shows to PodcastOne for the payouts to happen. That did not occur, and the deal ultimately fell through.
