| Hello once again and thanks for opening today's Inside Streaming brief. I'm not even going to venture a guess as to how Disney shareholders will vote this week... but I'm a bit perplexed by the public appeal and approach of Nelson Peltz and his rogue column of investors. There are certainly good arguments to be made that Disney botched its acquisition of Fox assets and the launch of Disney+. I've made many of them right here in this space in previous newsletters. But so much of Peltz's case for himself and his proxy battle in the press has focused on stale culture war nonsense. Disney being too "woke" or whatever. It's silly and it makes the whole effort sound fundamentally unserious, like they're a bunch of guys watching YouTube reviews of "Moana" instead of thinking about practical ways to actually drive real-world growth and cut costs. I think, if Iger triumphs, theirs was largely a failure of PR more than anything else. Lon p/lon-harris | |

Activist investors Trian Partners, run by Nelson Peltz, are hoping to score seats on the Disney board, to help shift the company's direction. More: - Peltz outlined his criticisms of Disney leadership in a 133-page manifesto published on March 4; most of his concerns center around the company's streaming business.
- Specifically, Peltz argues that Disney was too late in launching a Netflix competitor, and that, once it arrived, the service was "poorly planned."

- Peltz's proposes taking on new partners to shrink Disney's legacy TV business, rethinking the digital strategy around ESPN content, and establishing a succession plan ahead of current CEO Bob Iger's departure.
